US² images on Wikipedia
« on: January 20, 2015, 11:24:19 AM »
I am a Wikipedia editor, and I've been thinking about using some screenshots of the game to put in articles like "Moons of Jupiter". I'd just need Dan to add a page on copyright license "Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 4.0 " somewhere in the website so I could add the images. It is a good way to bring more attention to this awesome simulator and at the same time bring good, illustrative images to wikipedia

side note here: I am creating an article for US². edit: Here is is! Feel free to improve it

@adtdeveloping
Your screenshots are awesome.

And please use them as you'd like:

@gabriel
We're going to add language to that section for the  "Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 4.0" specifically, good idea. Stay tuned.

Great, I'm just waiting for you to add it. Screenshots of US would be awesome and very illustrative on Wikipedia.

I had added an image of the orbits of the inner and outer moons of Jupiter in the "Moons of Jupiter" article in the past, but it ended up being removed due to Wikipedia's strict rules on copyrighted material. It stayed there for a while and no one complained or anything, so that's great

Good idea to make a US² specific wiki page. You may not be aware that there is a whole section in the common universe sandbox wiki page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universe_Sandbox ) about US²
You could move stuff from there to your page and just leave a reference on the original page. That would probably make everything cleaner.

And thanks for taking the time to do stuff like this.

Can you point to where it says this on Wikipedia?

And to disagree with Thomas, I'd imagine that the original page (which has had issues for years) should just have a new section about Universe Sandbox ², instead of a whole new page. Either way...

In the upload wizard on wikimedia commons. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard

Select any file for upload just to go to the next step. There, you select "this file is not my own work" and then click on the first item in the list. All the available licenses possible will be there. Feel free to choose the one you see more appropriate.

Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 4.0 (legal code: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/)
Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 (legal code: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/)
Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 (legal code: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/)
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (legal code: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)
Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 (legal code: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/)
Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 (legal code: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/)
Creative Commons CC0 Waiver (release all rights, like public domain: legal code: https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/)

(I really wish I knew how to add hyperlinks)

(Edit: Not sure if there is a misunderstanding here but just in case: license info has to be added on this website, not on wikipedia.)
