Two Suggestions for Features
« on: December 22, 2011, 02:40:27 PM »
Wow. I've only got this game/tool/program earlier today and I'm already on the forums. Well here goes:

Suggestion 1: Solar Flares
Just a way to simulate the solar flares emitted by the sun which happens periodically. I feel like re-                       creating the movie Knowing.

Suggestion 2: Explosions/Shockwaves
So you select the tool, you adjust the force of the shockwave, and select a point, it it creates an
explosion/shockwave that propels objects around it

I'm not so caring about the first one, but it would be awesome for the second one. Well thanks  ;D

there are no shockwaves in space. no air.

So? It could be a good superpower.

It's to add a more sandboxey feel. Who doesn't love to send planets hurtling throughout space? Just think of it as a spacial disruption.

or an inverted gravity wave!

if you want a shockwave as of now, explode your bodies into more pieces. the pieces colliding into other objects will push them, creating a shockwave-like effect.

Yes there are shockwaves, except it involves gas and dust rather than a dense atmosphere. Look for them in nebulae or supernovas even.

I do like the idea of better controlled explosions though.

As for the first one, maybe you can sort of simulate that somehow using dust?

You could, but that can produce unwanted results, such as those objects will then float into other ones further away then wanted. This "tool" would create it in a defined space.

Well, you'd have to determine if there was dust and gas in the "space" then. Probably isn't much. Can't imagine 1 hydrogen atom/ m^3 or even hundreds of atoms doing much damage or pushing objects. Maybe putting lots of bodies close to each other and moving one would all cause them to jiggle :P

Maybe he meant a collision shockwave? Theres going to be new collision dynamics coming up in a major release next year, so we'll just have to see how that operates.

Basically that. Just in a defined space, with a defined direction.

These are both interesting ideas.

How would the solar flare work? What would it do to other objects?
and... the shockwave effect could be quite fun to play with.

Can you (or someone) add both ideas here?

The solar flare basically increases the light emitted and heat of the object temporarily, possibly changing the habitable zone and average temperatures of other planets.

EDIT: I've added the two ideas to the idea list. It's just a shame thought that it is right at the bottom, most people          won't see it. The format should be changed so that newer ideas are at the top.

Yeah... that is a problem (thanks for adding them to the list).

The list has grown beyond what I ever expected. Any thoughts on better ways to collect and view customer ideas and suggestions?

Well, I was thinking maybe every month people can put forward their suggestions. People can then vote for them. Then, only the top 5 or 10 will be put forward for your consideration. This would allow for only the most popular ideas to got through, and the list can regularly be cleared.

there's already a vote box. the problem is that people look at the ones at the top first. Maybe set up a web page or something where ideas randomly come up. Though that might be a bit complicated. what do you mean by people can "ore" for them.

Oops, sorry, it's supposed to be vote. I looked at the list of community ideas, and I saw that most of them were form like, 6-7 months ago, so all new ideas have to go to the bottom. So, if the list is cleared every month, the list won't get very crowded, and new ideas will stay at the top.
