Sketchup is just like drawing, except you can extrude into the 3rd dimension.
Roads in this game are commonly 8m across with 2m wide pavements/sidewalks. But the road that connects me and Bla is 10m wide, they can differ slightly, I have smaller roads on the outskirts that are 6m across. So draw or make boxes matching those dimensions, the size of what you're currently drawing is shown at the bottom right.

As for buildings, draw plots next to your roads, then use the offset tool to make a slightly smaller plot inside the drawn plot. You can type a number manually whilst doing this, I use 0.7m on plots.
After making your plot, extrude it to 3m. Everything is locked to a grid so you can't miss it.

Hope this helps. ;)

No problem. Here are the basic tools you need to use:
Mouse pointer - for selecting surfaces, edges etc., not so important.
Eraser - click or drag to delete lines it points at.
Paint - opens a menu with textures and colors for coloring surfaces. The colors we use are in the section called "Colors <1>", which you can find by clicking on the menu next to the house logo.
Pencil - the tool you use for drawing. Click where you want to start, and click in another place to finish a line. You can type numbers, and it'll make a line that long (in meters if that's the default unit) in the direction you're pointing. To make a surface, you must connect at least 3 points on a flat plane.
Push/pull - you can use this tool on a surface to extend it, so it becomes 3-dimensional.

Tools for navigating:
Orbit - Use this to orbit your camera around the area of the model you're pointing at. Click the tool or use the middle mouse.
Move - this moves your camera relative to the area of the model you're pointing at, but unlike the orbit tool, you'll still be looking in the same direction when you use this. Shift + middle mouse is a shortcut to this tool.

Your buttons will be larger by default, and will not be in the same places as my buttons, but the logos are the same.

Just use the pencil to mark the edges, and paint the inside the road color.

Ok, here's my plan

^click for better quality.
My HQ will be in Nova Desert. I am all industry, so there will be no residents

If its ok with you?

Yes, that's ok. We could definitely use some industry here. I don't know where we are producing stuff, but... We just are. :P

I think we might be using imports. ::)
I like the sketchy plan in that pic, too.

Enable measurements. It'll show you how long a line you draw is, the radius of circles you make, etc. You can use a line to measure a distance and then Ctrl + Z (undo) it.

Perfect. :)
Officially, one floor is 3 meters. I can see your industrial building is only 2 meters tall. But it's up to you whether you want to make it 3 meters. It looks like a small building, maybe some sort of small shed, so 2 meters probably wouldn't be unrealistic here.

yes, its 2 meters, its a small building :D

i  got a tip: if you add materials can you call them like: Industry, House, HQ and so on.

EDIT: added some Industry.

Great. :)
I've changed the colors so that they're the correct color of industry. It's slightly darker.

I'm editing the file now, so if you want to edit, tell me so that I can upload it.

Wait a second... Sorry, but the building limit is still 3 meters on normal buildings. You need to make 100 buildings before you may make them 6 meters tall, and the chimney also counts to the height of a building.

I haven't changed anything yet, but do you want to correct it or should I try to?
I don't think the building can look that exciting if it's corrected to be max 3 meters. Maybe we can make an exception, if you just remember not to make them more than 3 meters tall until you reach about 100 buildings.

WOOT, 100 buildings?! can't it be like 50, cause 100 will take a will  :-\

Thinking about this, many normal houses actually have two floors even though they're not apartments. It wouldn't be unrealistic for our cities to have such buildings. So, I'll change the rules so that we start at being allowed to make 6 meters/2 floors tall buildings, and our city halls 9 meters/3 floors.

You can keep this factory. But the building cap will still be risen each 100 buildings, as I think it's more realistic that way.

I'm editing the file, I'll upload it soon.

Right, I think I get it now: 100 buildings = 2 floors, 200 buildings = 3 floors, 300 buildings = 4 floors, ect.
Also, I think chimneys should be excepted, a hole in the roof of a factory wouldn't be very effective. :P

Now, this makes it possible to make a chimney which is one floor as an addition to the floor below. I think that's fair, otherwise we'll have to define what chimneys are, and... Not that it's a big problem, but I don't think so complex rules are needed. Also, it gives us more of a reason to expand outwards, when we will be better rewarded.

With the new rules, 0 to 100 buildings = 2 floors, 101 - 200 = 3 floors, etc.

Let's make a rule about writing "I'm editing" when we're editing, so that we don't edit at the same time and get into trouble merging it.

We might need a declare system for who's taking the next turn, so we don't get the revisions mixed up.
On that note, I declare. :)

Apologies.

It shall not be forgiven.
I was wondering, what version of Sketchup do you use?

I use Sketchup 8 pro.
