What are your top two desired features?
« on: January 07, 2011, 12:14:29 AM »
What are the top two new features or ideas (however crazy or complicated) that you'd like to see added in the next few months?

Wow.
Thats not so hard for me  ;D

Ofcourse the realistic impact feature and the Solar Formation Feature (when you adjust settings to what you want and see it all build up)

online system points thing SuperNova came up with, and the "games/achievment thing".

and for a third, multiplayer collab.

i think a solar main sequence evolution toggle thingy
and a sattillite launcher mode to simulate missions.
and if an object strikes another some material gets thrown off too, but not with a texture of the planet that got hit,
but instead with a texture of a molten rock that would later get a texture of the moon.

A site or something for us to upload and share our creations.

Better Dust

Sling-Shot Feature

This allows you to choose and object and click and drag and sling a planet in a direction.

Not necessary but I think it would be fun!

Honestly, I'd rather see the more basic stuff like an in-program texture selection interface, being able to save things like rings and rotational values, and the aligning orbits with the parent's axis thing I mentioned in a previous thread.

It also might be neat to an object's pericentron and apocentron show up when you right click on it along with things like surface gravity.

Also, I agree with the previously submitted idea of adding a system exchange onto this site at some point.

a star lifespan ;D ;D

I dunno... It seems like if you tried to simulate a planetary system over time periods where star lifespan comes into effect, you'd have to set the time step so high everything would glitch out and any planets or companion stars the star had would go flying.

This, and things like the atmosphere and temperature calculations, seem like they're a bit complex to be added in the short term future, since there are so many variables. Anyway, I normally just use Google to find the equations I need to calculate things like luminosity.

And I really want to do this.

I deleted a comment about who came up with a feature that someone else had suggested (and the feature was more obvious than it was original). Either way, let's not squabble over the ownership of ideas. How do you know I didn't have the idea first and you just happened to post about it before me?

And somewhat related... A good idea isn't worth much until it's been executed:

My mistake for misinterpreting your comment. I was afraid others might also misinterpret it. Thanks for the clarification.

I just added this to the next update, 2.0.14.

- What? So just a url makes a link?
- Awezome! Just make that your post, Dan. lol

- This is supposed to be a topic made of lists?
- Cool.

- Ability to add custom planets to the planet tab, and also other tabs.
- Betelguese
- Link to WolframAlpha for accurate rotation

I'm currently trying to learn C#. I wonder if I can figure out a way to get information off Wolfram on Planets, stars , etc, and display it in a window. Hmmm.

BUT, doesn't US do this already by pressing the little circle with the "i" in it? Except it's Wikipedia.

All I'm doing is showing the mobile version of the Wikipedia page. Parsing webpages for data is doable, but a bit more complicated.

- Probably a crazy idea, but a way to make new stars/planets/moons etc. under a 'Custom' folder. (already proposed though)
- Black holes have 'spiral effect' and auto-colored black.

I have more than these two... but they're all crazy.  :P

What are your other ideas? Don't feel limited to only two. Perhaps list your top two and then your other ones.

Making custom planets and stars and adding them as an icon is going to happen in the next few months (most likely).

I would really love to see an improve auto-orbit feature which could calculate orbits for trinary stars and circumbinary planets.
