ns solar system.
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:02:51 PM »
i made a seperate topic from community ns map because this is not really a map but a solar system. also makes it easier to nagivate the threads. and less lag from pictures in map thread. and because we have more threads on nationstates than universe sandbox in this forum probably.

anyway, i thought it would be a better idea to discuss and come to a consensus on the planets rather than voting.

we already have decided on the facts that;

9 planets
the single habited planet has 4 moons
there is another habitable but unhabited planet

_____

i also liked someone's (nue's?) idea to have 8 planets closer in and a ninth' distant one.

Do you mean like 8 in typical distances in the solar system and one way out in the cold darkness, further out than pluto? Just getting clarification here.

Also, if we do put moons, please lets not make the moons nearly the size of the planet, unless we want to make it a binary planet system. We didn't decide whether 1 moon can be a selena size moon and the rest asteroidal moons though.

Add my vote to the yes on the near earth gravity because well, we aren't looking for a heavy gravity world anyway.

I did say that we aren't looking for a high gravity world. No more than 2g would probably be good, unless you want no more than 1.5g.

I don't like the idea of using the exact same values as Earth, it's not realistic that some random, other planet with life would have properties which are exactly like on Earth.

Standard gravity should be around g, but not exactly g, imo.

Or 1.081g? There are planets that come really close to 1g like in the 0.99g range and those slightly heavier than earth gravity. It doesn't have to be a huge variation, but Bla is right, a random planet won't have exactly the same gravity as earth. You play Space Engine, so tell me how many planets have EXACTLY earths gravity besides earth? None, but there are lots with gravity that is pretty close to 1g.

well our official map is 4096 pixels and at a scale of 1 pixel-side = 10 km, that is a near perfect result of 40960 kilometers circumference. 6519 km radius

Assuming a density of 5 tons / m^3, the surface gravity is 9.11 m/s = 0.93 earth gravities
Assuming a density of 5.5 tons/ m^3 the surface gravity is 10.01 m/s = 1.02 earth gravities
Assuming a density of 6 tons / m^3, the surface gravity is 10.93 m/s = 1.12 earth gravities.

1 ton * 1000 kilograms/ 1 ton * 1000 grams / kilogram = 1000000 grams
1 cubic meter = 1 meter * 1 meter * 1 meter = 100 cm *100 cm * 100cm = 1000000 cm^3

When I proposed the system configuration, when I said "close" I meant close.

I'm talking Kepler-33 here.

8 planets in like the first 1-3 AU or so, and then the 9th at about 8-11 AU.

If Kepler 33 has more, I wonder just how many more.

Anyhow, that would allow for possibly 3 planets in the habitable zone.
