How To Make Your Own Galaxy
« on: July 02, 2009, 01:10:09 PM »
I made a detailed list of steps on how to make your own galaxy but my computer had an error and it was lost.
Here it is in a simpler version:

1) Make a star 50xsun with velocity 0.00 meters/second.
2) Pause game and turn time step to less than a second.
3) Apply multiple types of rings.
4) Unpause just enough to rings smear together.
5) Pause and click orbit all button.
6) Watch as matter condenses and forms lines that slant inward to create arms.
7) If you want to slightly decrease the mass of the star.
8 ) Adjust these statistics until you get something you want.

Since my picture won't work please post pictures of your galaxies. Try to change the way you make it compared to what I did so they all look different. Maybe shoot objects to change the shape of it.

Yeah I know but i=my computer kept on loading for like thirty minutes. I'm connected to my neighbors internet (don't tell :P) because mine has been acting stupid. I had to reset the internet tons of times and only get like thirty seconds of internet time.

I made mines in a different way...

1. Make a binary suns
2. Pause
3. Create Rings for each
4. Play
5. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 and...
6. Taadahh! A spiral galaxy!

Though I think this is the harder one though.

Doesnt work lol. And some of the steps make no sense.
Why would yu click "Orbit All" with only 1 star? Wouldnt do anything.
The rings just circle the star as normal, nothing happens :(

Well it's weird. If I don't click orbit all my ring will just continue to expand outward forever. :-\

You can add a 2nd body at the same location as the 1st and give that a belt. When the simulation is loaded it checks for overlaps and combines any overlapping bodies together. starts the two bodies will combine into one, but the belts will only have been given the correct velocity to orbit the original bodies and won't correctly orbit the single, combined body. You could then select Orbit All to correct this

This is quoted from a response by Dan in another topic. This is a perfect clarification and implies that clicking orbit all will redirect the rings to the center after the speeds cause it to shoot outward.

Another way to make it is to have a 3d grid. this make an elliptical or a spiral galaxy.

How would that create a spiral? The grid isn't orbiting the center of mass.
