Title: Enceladus
Post by: Andreas on August 13, 2009, 10:49:26 AM
Hey Dan, is it possible you make Enceladus like it really looks?

Its one of the most beautiful moons in our solar system. Like a jewel.

1. put enceladus map in Media folder
2.Open Apprance file and find the Enceladus
3.Replace old texture put new texture/map enceladus

for example <TextureDiffuse>newtexture.jpg</TextureDiffuse>

The Apperance.xml file is found in the install folder for Universe Sandbox.
(in Program Files\Universe Sandbox\Data - not in (My) Documents\Universe Sandbox)

Note that when you upgrade (when the new version is released) any changes to the files in the Data folder will be overwritten without asking you. (so if you make any important changes make a backup copy outside of the installed folder)

You may also want to scale the texture down to something more manageable like 1024x512 or even 512x256.

The maps are a cylindrical projection.

Here's the complete set and more info:
http://laps.noaa.gov/albers/sos/sos.html

Also I can't distribute these specific files given the disclaimer at the bottom of the page:
"The images on this page are intended for personal non-commercial use only."

No worries though... I'll either obtain permission to use this file or find a version of Enceladus that I can use.

It won't let me change the texture. What did you open Appearance with? I went to My Documents>Universe_Sandbox>systems>copy_data_for_reference>Appearance

I know but how could the file size be too big? I'm trying to change the enceladus texture to the one that was posted.
