I can't wait for Universe Sandbox 3 BETA to be released then later on down the road the full simulator. It has been ages since we heard about the next update for Universe Sandbox, so where's the Beta? Please release the beta ASAP. We are still waiting very patiently...., but for how long?

No, YOU are waiting and YOU are demanding that Dan release an unfinished, half-playable product. These things take a long time. Minecraft has recently been undergoing a complete redo of their code. They have been releasing snapshots that are still in line with their current system, but in the background all six of them have been working away, 10 hours a day, to get the new system out. Meanwhile, everyone on Dan's team is probably part-time on the project, which means a maximum of 2 or 3 hours a day. Only Dan can dedicate the full 8 or 9 hours, unless he too now has a "normal" job.

i find it ironic that you make these topics, knowing Dan will check them especially because they're in the Universe Sandbox 2 Discussion, which means wasting more time and less time for developing Ubox3. And okay,

ASAP means "as soon as possible" not "release the beta now".

tuto99, ASAP is short for As Soon As Possible, I meant release the beta when it can be released, even if that means waiting 6 or 7 or more months even those I didn't put that down in text.

I'm really humbled by your enthusiasm; thank you.

We're working on it. We'd been working on a new collision system for a few months, but it just wasn't working, so we scrapped it and started again. And recently... Chris has spent the last few weeks refactoring the code that handles how bodies relate to one another which specifically effects galaxies and rings around planets. We're taking our time to make the code robust and future proof since we hope to build upon this for years to come.

I've been doing programming quite a bit recently, making small physics games on my spare time out of boredom, and I've found that if something as simple as collision doesn't work after about a week of trying, it's time to change it back, and move on to doing something a bit more important. Why not leave the new system for something like 3.0.1, since collision detection seems to already be in and working good enough?

Just my two cents.

But it's not good enough.... It's has to be robust and awesome... At the moment it works well for a few types of collisions, but still doesn't handle the Moon colliding with Earth or two Earths colliding well at all.

Agreed
Development time does not bother me at all as long as I know what's going on, I think it's important for a game in development to keep the fanbase and any potential new customers up to date on how development is going. Ideally you'd have something like a post every week saying what's happened in development during that past week, but I know that might not be feasible for a team as small as Universe Sandbox's - So just dropping a new video every now and again would be really nice.

Except that collision isn't simple in ubox and it IS an important part of the simulation.

The new collision system will be one of the key features of the new version... it has to be awesome, not just good enough.

And... there's still tons of other things to do. The UI is pretty messy right now and needs lots of work. It's not a single feature holding up the release.

I had posted on the blog that the beta would be out in 2013... so that might be what v.vsokubenko is basing his claim on... I have since revised the blog post to remove the specific dates.

I really want to get the beta out this year, but I can't promise this.
