Requesting Moon Help
« on: April 05, 2012, 03:12:33 PM »
I wasn‘t sure if this should go in the help forum as it seemed for for help with technical issues rather than help with just doing things in Universe Sandbox.

I bought this game a day ago and I‘m really enjoying it so far, but I‘m still learning the nuance of creating my own systems.

In particular, I‘ve been having trouble place multiple moons in orbit around a planet. After a few years both are either captured by the star‘s gravity or ejected from the system entirely. Am I doing it wrong, or is this just not possible?

It‘s not in front of me, but the planet I‘m trying to get these moons to orbit is about .88 Earth masses, each moon is about .33 moon masses. The planet is 1.03 AU from the star which is 1.1 sun masses, this I actually do remember exactly.

I‘m also having a problem with planets orbiting to close to the host star being ejected from the system, but I‘m assuming these are just too close.

Sounds a lot like your timestep is just too high.

Try pressing 'a' for autotime step as well as 'o' for autoorbit

I did see another post a bit after posting this saying that something along those lines happens when the timestep is really high. This does only seem to happen when I increase it.

I‘ve tried setting things to autoorbit and the same result happens. I haven‘t tried autotiming yet, thanks for letting me know such a thing exists.
