Do You Know the Real Islam?

It's incredibly sad how few people really know the true Islam today.

Islam teaches many things and that includes justice, love, preserving family blood ties, brotherhood, kindness to one's parents, and the list goes on.

Many people in the West confuse the real teachings of Islam with the stupid behavior of extremists who have the audacity to call themselves muslims. Real muslims do not kill innocent people. But these terrorists use any excuse to justify their foolish actions.

Another point that many people in the West confuse: Sunna with Shia sect. The  "muslims" from Iran practice a version of Islam which isn't truly Islam. There was a split of who should have been the first muslim leader after Muhammad's death. Some believed that Muhammad{PBUH) wanted Ali Ibn Abi Talib to become the first Caliph. Ali's supporters became the shia sect.  And the Sunni is the majority of muslims today. The Sunni is the practices of Prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Upon Him) which are the examples that he set forth in order to give future Muslims a clear guidance in how to behave in everyday life. This is the true Islam.

People are confusing politics with religion, and that is why most people today cannot get a truer picture of the real Islam.

The Shia sect probably also claims that they are 'True Islam'. Christianity has a similar kind of split with Catholics and Protestants. The two have been rivals for a very long time and while there isn't any sectarian violence between the two, there was centuries ago.

Part of the problem is simply the state of living in most muslim countries and corrupt governments/dictatorships.

While jorgea seems to be a spambot (based on other posts), this topic is a valid thing to discuss.
Also we have another topic for religion.

It is good that you condemn violence.

As for the post, I think it is somewhat misleading, though, while well-intended.
I sunni muslims could basically copy the message and just swap the sects. It's a bit of a no true Scotsman fallacy to say that only people who believe exactly like you can represent Islam.
Also, while most muslims may not believe in these parts, The Quran does contain a somewhat big amount of not-really-good-stuff. Those who do can't really be said not to represent Islam - they probably believe just as powerfully to represent the religion in the only true way, but read the book differently.
Also, Saudi Arabia hardly better than Iran, but it is a sunni islamic country with a sunni islamic government.

Smjjames: There's still violence between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland (Bloody Sunday, for example). Possibly in some poor countries too, but I'm not sure.
