The Issue

Hospitals have requested that they be allowed to pay people for donating blood and other bodily organs, such as kidneys.

The Debate

"We remain critically short of blood plasma and various organs," says Dartomic Farevar One hospital administrator Jake Winters. "Especially hearts. A good heart is hard to find. But if we were allowed to pay for donations, we'd get more of them and could save more lives. Plus the donor takes home a few hundred virgins in compensation. Unless it's a post-mortem donation, of course. In that case we'd pay the family."
KOL

"Great idea," says social commentator Mia Gutenberg. "Except for one thing. You know who's going to be selling their organs? Poor people! They'll be so desperate for money that they'll sell their own kidneys. Well, a kidney. This is just another way for the rich to buy themselves a better life at the expense of the poor. It must be outlawed."

Anybody got this one before? Just asking out of curiosity. Of course though, the real world issue is far more complicated than this seemingly simple NS issue.

Cowboys and... Aliens?
The Issue

A gang of rough-riders has been policing towns along Kaeshar's border, rounding up illegal aliens and "escorting" them back home.
The Debate

"Who do these thugs think they are?" asks popular liberal blogger Virginia Usman. "The police should be the only ones handling border control! If we leave it in the hands of wild frontiersmen, immigrants will be herded and probed like Velociraptors! It's despicable, it's degrading, and it must be stopped!"

"Why, we just helpin' our community, is all," drawls the self-proclaimed sheriff of the cowboy gang, Harry Fjord, as he slides off his saddle to shake your hand. "Matta'fact, we're helpin' the gov'ment as well, enforcin' border control and keepin' yer towns safe from them damned illegals. I can handle m'boys, so don't you worry 'bout a thing."

Voting For More Money
The Issue

It has long been traditional in Kaeshar for Members of Parliament to set their own salary. This has, however, led to a recent vote in which members unanimously tripled their pay. Watchdog groups have spoken out against this.
The Debate

"Oh, wouldn't the world be a happier place if we could all decide our wages," shouts John Hendrikson, leader of the World Of Watchdog, an anti-corruption foundation. "Who in their right minds would vote against getting more money with no strings attached? This quite obviously cannot be allowed to continue or where will it end? That money should be being used to fund hospitals, not personal luxuries! Well enough is enough! Politicians' salaries should be set by public vote! Maybe then we'll see something more reasonable!"

"I couldn't agree less," says Ali Eliot, a Member of Parliament. "Sure, some people might think that having eight cars and three secretaries is excessive, but I'm doing our country a valuable service. Probably one of the most important services there is: representing the people and deciding what course our country should take. It's an incredibly stressful job and there's no way we could do it with lower pay. Members of Parliament ought to be allowed anything they want in return for all they do for Kaeshar. If we have what we want we're less likely to take bribes too."

"Perhaps there's a way to compromise," says Stan Pushkin, an amateur economist, philosopher and lepidopterist. "The problem here is that politicians could either be paid too little or too much. What if we paid them just right by paying them according to how well they do their job? Keep a close monitor on the needs of their constituencies and give bonuses for resolving problems and coming under budget. It gives them a proper monetary incentive to do their jobs. Some will have a harder time than others and the whole idea may be costly but if it cracks down on corruption I'm all for it."

If only the US congress were paid the way the third option is done. Maybe, just MAYBE, they'd actually get things done and actually cooperate and compromise (and yes I'm picking the third option).

I'd probably go with the first one. Politics shouldn't be a place you go to earn money, it should be a place you work to make the world a better place. That should be the only motivation. If people aren't motivated by that they should definitely stay out of politics. And I also think it'd be hard to measure how "well" politicians do, because it's often very subjective. But if they're corruptioning ofc they should be thrown out of politics.

I invented my own little method to calculate a "realistic" GDP for our nations. Basically, a formula converts the economy value of a nation into a "growth" value. Your nation has a starting GDP of "100", this is just a base, what it was before you took control, and can be whatever you like. But after you take over, the gdp is calculated every day and changes by the growth value.
If you economy is 0, the growth is -0,1%. If your economy is 40, it's 0%. If it's 100, it's 0,15%. So if your GDP was 100, and your economy in NS is 100 for the next day, your GDP will become 100 + 100 * 0,15 / 100 = 100,15.

This also means growth is exponential. Over an entire year, you can get a probably unrealistically high growth... If it stays at 100 for a year your economy will grow by 73%. It would fall by 31% if it stayed at 0 for an entire year. The formula could be made more complex and changed, but I thought that 0% growth should be around 40.

Here the data and graphs are for Blaist Blaland. I can make similar graphs for your nations as well if you like, but max 2 nations pr. person.

Aeridani.

I should really write a program for formatting the data in the charts instead of manually deleting the commas and shifting lines. >_<

And did Redbow for fun.

Here's the growth formula, the newest doc and a file I made for optimizing the growth formula for the future, which shows some examples based on the formula.

I think max growth should be around 20% pr. year.

I'll do Kaeshar, but I think I'll optimize the growth formula before doing more nations now. If you people have suggestions, it'd be good. Maybe we should make it an official formula for determining our nations' GDPs (just from a base called "100" which can be whatever)? I think it'd be fun if we could make something realistic based on the NS stats.

What do people think of adding some random noise like for example by using sin or cos on the number of days or something like that (should definitely be something more noisy than the sin or cos cycle, but based on days I think)? And multiply growth by something like that so that it doesn't just become one straight line if you stay at one value. Hmm.

Maybe draw a graph for the growth rates you think economy values should give for an entire year and then optimize the formula based on the drawings. This is probably what I think.

Well I guess Atomic doesn't want it to be official based on NS stats since NS stats aren't really realistic or reflecting how he wants his country to be, and I could understand if other people feel the same way. I guess I'll just make it non-official and improve the formula based on what I think and stuff so whatever. I think this is how it should be. Maybe with a sharper rise in the start.
