Views on Palestine becoming a full U.N. member
« on: November 03, 2011, 06:39:20 PM »
Apparently on Halloween, the U.N. passed a resolution to make Palestine a full United Nations state. With the United Nations composed of 194 members eligible for voting, 107 were in favor, 14 were against, 52 abstained and 12 were absent. This was approved by the U.N. and is apparently waiting ratification. Among the votes, Israel, the United States and most of its allies, and several other countries disapproved it.

So, what are your views on this?

Well, actually I think that it isn't good enough. I want Western Sahara, Vatican City, AND Palestine to be part of it. :P

Because if it's the United Nations, shouldn't every country be in it?

Western Sahara isn't a country FYI, you're referring to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. Either way, Western Sahara is actually a disputed territory and Morocco controls most of it. I might guess that the Vatican is only a permanent observer probably because of the Holy See operating there. Palestine, from what I know of, didn't declare independence and, like Western Sahara, is only a disputed territory, with a Palestinian independence movement.

I still don't understand, if it's a so-called "World Union" then every country (and disputed territory) must be part of it. But seriously, peace will never happen, so get rid of the U.N. all together.

The UN does a nice job of keeping peace where it can. It could be worse.

I still hate the U.N. It's a stupid idea, as the U.N. can only keep peace for so long...

Well, then what do you suggest for a new, better organization, then? The United Nations is better than the League of Nations, which failed to hold a peace treaty for World War II.

What do I suggest? I suggest there be no peace keeping organization whatsoever.

Or maybe a less restricted one.

If so, then the world would be in a destructed state. Africa would be filled with massacre caused by tyrannical leaders, Central America would have its governments overthrown, the Middle East would even be more frightening, and such. The world would be in ever-lasting wars without a world-wide organization to stop it.

Well, that's just my prediction anyways.

I wish it was still the Medieval period, we didn't need a U.N. in the Medieval era...

@deoxy

Keep peace for a certain while is much better than no peace

Why do away with it when it works as it is

"Less restricted"? as in more tolerance for wars? hehe.

Yes, more tolerance for wars. I'd wish they'd just have a little more tolerance for wars, and I'd be happy with the U.N. as it is.

In Soviet Russia, Palestine recognizes you! :P
