the popularity of the home recording studio and the development of digital audio workstations allowed any musician to record music themselves. most people who create music "in their bedroom" aim for or are forced into a lower quality sound but it's never in any specific style. so it's not really a genre as much as it's a growing method of creating music

i've never had a decent set up for recording anything, so the lo-fi aspect of my music came naturally
