My models are too big and in background
« on: August 17, 2011, 07:35:34 AM »
Hello,

I want add three models in Universe Sandbox, but this isn't a success...

I downloaded three models in .skp files (Google Sketchup) (file 1 and file 2), and I converted this models in .x files. I put this files with the .jpg files associated in my /Media folder. However, the result is this :

At 11347 km...

and at 113 022 light years!
The model is like a background.

This file is best, but too big, and the ship is off the base object and missing faces.

How can I center the objects? Have a smaller size? And have all polygons?

Thank you for your answers.

Here you can change the size. I don't know about the rest.

The size change nothing. The ship's size doesn't change with the zoom, it remains the same.

The diameter of object is at 1mm :

On the scale of Jupiter.

At the scale of Eta Carinae.

no jk

could you shrink the model in whatever 3d modeling program that came from?

Okay. Have you tried clicking "Show Bodies at Actual Size" on the menu you can open by hovering and then clicking near the left edge?

I'm too bad to use this tools :s. But, I tried and I can just rescale parts of the model, not all (or I don't know) and it's too complicated.

It's good :D! Is it possible to save the configuration?

Thank you very much :).

No problem. :)
I don't think it's possible to save the configuration. Currently some of the configurations are saved, and others aren't.

Models should be positioned at 0,0,0 in your 3D editing program and scaled so that the largest side stretches from -1 to 1 units. Export the model and open in Universe Sandbox. This will fix the huge model issue.

I've found how reposition the object. And how change the size, but I don't understand the signification of : "the largest side stretches from -1 to 1 units"?

Thank you.

That means the longest side has to go from -1 [insert unit] on the grid to 1 [insert unit] on the grid.

He converted them to a format Universe Sandbox uses, and puts the model in the program folders and uses it that way.

I found a plugin to convert in .x (in 3ds the game crashs).

Thank you for all :).
