Textures polar distortion

so the textures all have that polar distortion at the poles to make it look normal
can someone explain how this was done? like photoshop or something? i can't make my textures look right

I found this image on Google. It mentioned Photoshop in the description. I guess the text on it describes how to make polar distortions in Photoshop.

i did that and i got a funky oval with wierd lines...thanks ill try it again anyway :D
off topic: i just did one of those anti spam things and it was to seperate the lolcats from the cars....wtf

triple edit: OH WAIT i can just turn it vertical, spherize it horizontally and turn it back! *hugs self*

quadruple edit: oh noez, that only does the same as vertical spherizing, compresses image, nawt stretches!

5th edit : AHH THE MERCURY TEXTURE IS A FRAUD! its the same thing copied over...

6th edit : *everyone stares*
