Dynamic Stars?
« on: July 09, 2011, 11:19:29 AM »
I did a search and did not see anything on this, but I am wondering if there is a way to define a dynamic star? In particular I would like to simulate the sun slowly expanding into a red giant.

Turning the sun into a red giant is interesting, but I would really like to see what happens to the solar system over time as the sun expands and loses mass.

Currently, this isn't possible, I think Dan might be planning on it in the future. Plus the timestep required would probably throw off the planets if you wanted it in a realistic timeframe, not years. :-\

What about variable stars that change over short periods, or novae?

That would make more sense, yes.

Aren't most red dwarfs variable stars?

Giants usually are.

Yes. This is correct. :)
