This is good idea and fairly easy to do. The tech is mostly in place. It's just a matter of models, textures, and modifying a few data files.

Does anyone know of any models or textures that are redistributable?

For comets I also want to make the tail look better, but that will not be in the next update.

Yes it would. Hopefully this update may be released this month or next month
