King Arthur's Gold (an Indie game)
« on: May 12, 2011, 10:33:20 AM »
Oh man this sounds like 3rd party advertising. Basically it's a cool game I'd love to share, check it out.
You know about Terraria? Well, until that's out take a look at this little gem:
King Arthur's Gold is a game in which you obtain gold, collect resources, build castles and stash said gold in said castles, you do all this with your team-mates.
It's pretty cool, but the official server is very empty at times. I could have a go at hosting a little server for us.
But without further ado, the blog in which you can acquire this: http://kagdev.tumblr.com/

Looks like a good game for trench warfare. That could be interesting. Do you know whether the maps are boundless procedurally generated like Minecraft?

The maps are randomly generated, but are bound to X & Y values which you can choose. So the maps have boundaries.

If I'm to be honest, you can't name them yet. They'll show up in numbered order.

Nice concept, good gameplay, my only issue so far is windowed isn't working for me, it's stuck in full screen :D

Looks cool.

Agreed.

I'll check this out. Both this and Terraria are cool, but they don't compare to Minecraft in different ways.

Minecraft > Terraria

You can't really compare this to Minecraft... They're quite a bit different from what I've seen.

I don't see why compare the two games; they're different in aspect.

Forget Terraria then, and never compare games again.

I'll compare them. They're both composed of blocks. Minecraft is 3D blocks. Terraria and King Arthur's Gold is 2D.

Sorry if I broke anyone's entire worldview there. :P

Good news those who want to host a server.
You can change your server's name by opening up 'autoconfig.GM' in something like notepad. It's located in '\KAG\Base\Scripts', and it's at the bottom of the document.
You can also change the window resolution from that.

Join my server!

Steps
1. Press Join Game in the main menu.
2. Click on Browse Games.
3. Click on Update List if you do not see "Deoxy99's Server"

Great game. Just tried the official server and got addicted for two hours.

Couldn't connect to your server, btw. :/

Can't connect, Deoxy.
It also seems the official server is down.

Why won't dad let me port forward? People can't get into your computer like that.

If I know how to do, I'll host a map I just drew. It should be more interesting than the standard generated maps which are just the same all the way down... This will feature some exciting changes as you go further down... :)

Look for Blacom 3. I'll host it on Hamachi if I can, since I can't port forward from Blacom 3 directly.

Well, how do I host a game?

Run the dedicated server file in the KAG folder.
So you found out how to make your own maps, hm? I made my own castle with that, could be cool if CTF is implemented.

Also, you may have noticed people like to dig under enemy bases, a lot. I think there should be more incitive to keep people fighting above ground. Siege engines may change that...

I could make a very deep map (like the one I have now) and a very wide but flat map for interesting trench wars.

I'll try to host the server. Thanks.

You can join using my Hamachi IP and the default KAG port.
IP: 5.76.194.91

There's a problem with the map though... The dirt doesn't show up. :/ I'll try to fix it.

No. I can't edit maps. The dirt doesn't work and you always spawn in the top right corner. :/
I'll host a trench map, then.

Hmm, are you placing tent spawn points, and the right colour for foreground dirt?

Yes, I moved the spawn points, but I used the right color for dirt.

Btw, I don't even think I had the server program running when you joined, but I'll try running it now.

I tried that and it didn't work. It kept saying it couldn't connect to the so-called Main Server.

I don't know if it'll help, but the creator made a tutorial on his blog.

KAG has had an "eyecandy" update, and the features seems to have been developed since we (or just I? :P) left it.
http://www.indiedb.com/games/king-arthurs-gold/news/eyecandy-build-released

I don't think I'll start playing it again, though. Maybe try it a few times.
