"Pinning Stars"
« on: May 11, 2011, 06:59:08 PM »
Hello All,
I've been waiting for a Sim like this ever since I found one for my Amiga! I'm tinkering with our solar system to create "Alpha Centauri with planets"- by increasing the mass of Uranus to that of Alpha Centauri B. The Sim works for a while until Mr. Sun wants to visit his big next door neighbor. Is there a way to "pin" Sol to one spot and let everyone else orbit around him? Wait, isn't that heresy!

Thanks,

Fluke

Great question. Yes, you can lock an objects' position. When you click on the object to open up the properties window, you are presented with three tabs. The third tab is the Dynamic Properties where you can find things like position and velocity. In the position part next to the coordinates you will find a check box labelled "Lock". By checking that box, you will lock the object to the current set of coordinates.

Edited from original post for more precise directions.

 LordAnubis85 ,

Thanks so much for the help! Now lets see if I can send Jupiter out of the system faster then .013C (my current record!).
