Announcement planned for April 29
« on: April 20, 2011, 05:17:35 PM »
Assuming everything goes smoothly over the next week I will be releasing Universe Sandbox 2.1 and making an additional announcement next Friday, April 29. :)

Version 2.1
- Improved multi-core support
- Improved Save - dust, trails, and rotation will all be restored on load

- Will be a free upgrade for both free and premium users of version 2
- Requires .NET 4 (the current version checks for this and will ask you to upgrade)

The galaxy simulations will be much more exciting now, when they can be continued, and interactions with planetary rings. It looks great. :)

Someone emailed me and asked to see a screenshot of what's new in version 2.1. Admittedly it doesn't look that different, but here a screenshot showing the main screen with the two minor changes. As small as they are, it's amazing how much time I spent on them to make them work they should. :)

And now you click anywhere along the right side of the screen (or either right corner) to open the menu. The click area of the View/Options panel is the same as before, but it doesn't show up until you hover over it.

Thoughts, comments?

Sounds good. We will officially know once we can get our hands on it.

Yes. There will be a few new tutorials.

That's because there's noting being simulated. It always runs fast if it's not doing anything. :)

As far as the number of changes and improvements it's not much different than other incremental updates that I've released over the last year. This update happens to have two significant changes: improved save/load and that it will require .NET 4 (which has awesome multi-core features that are easy to integrate into the existing code base).

Excellent!

Looking forward to that multi-core support so my quad and soon to be six core can take advantage and make more complex systems.
Save feature improvements will be a huge help also!

I'm planning on releasing the .NET 4 version this Friday, but it won't have the multi-core features enabled by default. In testing I ran into a few bugs and instead of pushing the date, I'm going to go ahead and release it with plans for an update with multi-core enabled by default within two weeks.

In short... The big hurdle was transitioning to .NET 4. This will happen and multi-core will follow shortly.

Aaarrrggg, but I can wait.  My CPU needs a new fan anyways and I don't get one will next week probably. I got to lay off CPU intensive stuff.
