Big Goverment Simulator
« on: April 01, 2011, 08:36:49 AM »
My Mega Frankenstein game would consists of
ultimate Frankenstein (all games above), but modified;

Rulers of Nations- Politics/Secret Service/Domestic system/Research but modified – they have Tech level – a feature from Supreme Ruler 2020/Economic model, modified by games below.

Superpower 2 - Globe/UI/Nuclear warfare*1/Ease of transporting army*2/Political leanings but with bigger scale*3/Day and Night/Military Research*4
*1 Real life effects of it. (destroying ozone layer/increasing radioactivity/nuclear winter/instant effect on whole economy/destroying everything in full destruction range)
*2 Supreme Ruler 2020 was too complicated with it.
*3 Almost anarchy - totalitarian dictatorship, communism - almost pure capitalism.
Or 3d political leanings like in Nationstates (web game) – personal/political/economical level of freedom.
*4 this would be average from all stats 10 – Star rating.

Supreme Ruler 2020 - Tech levels*5/Various types of Mass Range Weapons*6.
*5 You cant research too advanced tech too early BUT researching tech's crucial to survive more than 100 years have VERY HIGH priority - these will reduce your dependency on nonrenewable resources , and will be researched, as they appear, priority of this would be modified in ecologist/environmentalist budget sector.
*6 Weapon types: chemical, biological, nuclear, neutron (only radiation, kills but not destroys), thermonuclear, EMP (destroys all electrical circuits), antimatter, dark-matter/dark-energy.

Hearts of Iron 3 – Warfare/Army, but easy transport like in Superpower 2/Military designs would be “generic” like in Superpower 2.

Civilization 4 – Diplomacy/Moddability*7/Building of cities*7/Revolutions*7/Mass range weapons at least pollutes a land.
*7 This game have HUGE mods - it could be modified, so certain techs allows build cities on sea/ocean/mountain, some of mods allows civil wars and revolutions.

Empire Earth - Advancing trough Epochs (Modern to Future like 2200 year)/City/Unit/Ui/Industry Styles (spawn between 3 - 5 epochs).

Fate of the World – Ecology/Global warming/Pollution/Resource or/and Climate economical crisis/Pro-environmental policies.

Oiligarchy (freeware) - Peak oil or any nonrenewable resource - a economical crisis when you too slow change economy to closed system*8.
*8 Sustainability WIKI

SimEarth: The Living Planet (old simulator game (abadonware)) – Realistic seasons of year*9/Rainfall*9/Temperature Change*9/Atmosphere could be modified or repaired after damage*9/
Modified version of Happiness and Quality of life*9
*9 Impact on Economy like in reality

Below is detailed described one of features. It comes from old game “SimEarth: The Living Planet”
but I made it more “advanced”

This would be HDI modified by environmental rating and health, political, personal and economic freedom, social security, "peacefulness world rating" and crime rates
Modified HDI would be measured in %

Quality of Life description
(95% - 100%> - Heavenly (Near - utopian,....And they lived long and happily for ever after - World)
(85% - 95%> - Marvelous
(75% - 85%> - Very Good
(65% - 75%> - Good
(55% - 65%> - Pleasant
<45% - 55%> - Tolerable - Today, Average world
<35% - 45%) - Unpleasant
<25% - 35%) - Bad
<15% - 25%) - Very Bad
<5% - 15%) - Miserable (North Korea World)
<0% - 5%) - Hellish (Mad Max/Fallout/Orwell 1984 World)
That scale would have wide palette of colors, unlike others Red-Green scale

Entropy would be reverse of modified HDI
Extreme low----/(95% - 100%>-Purple – White (97% level would be pink)
Ultra low--------/(85% - 95%>---Dark Blue - Purple
Very low---------/(75% - 85%>--Blue – Dark Blue
Low--------------/(65% - 75%>--Marine - Blue
Below average-/(55% - 65%>---Green – Marine (color between green and blue)
Average---------/<45% - 55%>--Yellow - Green
Above Average-/<35% - 45%)--Orange - Yellow
High-------------/<25% - 35%)---Reddish Orange - Orange
Very high-------/<15% - 25%)---Dark Red - Reddish Orange
Ultra high-------/<5% - 15%)----Brown - Dark Red
Extreme high---/<0% - 5%)------Black - Brown
Entropy Color range on map (Extensive palette to see very small changes)

These scales would be measured with at accuracy one-tenth promile
Entropy would have great impact on almost everything in game

In extreme, Entropy could go so high (below 10%), that entire civilization's would be torn apart, and global temperatures would go up as high as 5 - 10 degrees.

Or Entropy could go so low (above 90%), that all nations will be united into giant, happy, ecological, liberal, democratic and space colonizing Empire of Earth.

This game would be requiring top-class computer, and probably contain many bugs and flaws, and producing it will take 3-5 years.

Sorry for my English, I’m from Poland, if someone can find grammatical error, show me it in a post.

4 - Western Europe, Canada, Japan
3 - Australia, Eastern Europe?
2 - USA and some other countries
1 - Some more countries
0 - Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, North Korea...

Sorry world, but no countries are deserving higher than 5 in my opinion. Personally, I don't think there's a single place in the world I would find tolerable currently. There isn't a single place with tolerance.

You completly didn't understand this. TOLERANCE NOT MEAN TOLERABLE
This is Quality of country! not a tolerating other races or discriminatig peoples
If this would be true, than a crude oil  barrel would cost 299$ making unrest and revolutions in all societes!
You just made a failed world.

0 - US

If it would be true, we were been in ultra-deep recession.

At least I know that, if my idea of game would be real one, I could find players that would be:

1. Make USA Dictatorship - drops to 3 star rating (some chances of rioting)
2. Conquer and annex all countries in the world
3a. Raising star rating to 10 (at least 99% of utopia)
3b. Destroying Earth (just throwing back united civilization to stone age OR destroying Earth's atmosphere by launching millions of anti-matter and dark-matter nukes) by dropping it to 0 (below 1% of utopia rating or 99% ANTI-utopia rating)

Tolerable (5-star rating) means that country has perfectly cancelling each other advantages and disadvantages).

Wealth doesn't equate the people living in the country being happy. Then all Danes would've become three times as happy since 1960 just because our GNP has tripled.
To me, tolerance and equality exactly is what makes a society tolerable to live in. I'd much rather live in a society where the people accept me than in one where I can spend my whole life being enslaved by money and a bunch of bigots.
The social conditions within a country certainly does affect the quality of it a great deal. I think it does so even more than money.

Do you simply measure the quality of a country by its GDP? Then why not just post this list? :P

I resend you to first post, this star rating is just Extended HDI by: environmental rating and health (sustainbility), political, personal and economic freedom (less needless control of state is better), social security (unemployement, homeless, poverty - these as will be lower, a rating will increase), "peacefulness world rating" (No wars, wery low or non-existing military spending) and crime rates.

Unemployement should be at 3-4%, and none will be without work longer than 1 year.
Inflation - 2%
Homeless - virtually not-existant
Unequality - low to enough, so poor will not be demotivated, and high enough so rich would be not demotivated.
It should be at "no stress point", it can be higher when country is richer.

Many of the measures you mentioned are affected mostly by the social conditions in the country, and not just its wealth. Like the USA, it is more wealthy than Denmark, but it has a much higher crime rate etc.
Environment - I stand by my ratings. I don't think any countries are anywhere near complete sustainability, which is the only option for Earth if we are actually serious about making our societies last millions of years and not just a few hundred more, if we're lucky. Here many poor countries might have an advantage, because they don't pollute as much pr. inhabitant.
Health - the European welfare states fit this very well. In the USA, before the free healthcare system, you had to pay for healthcare yourself, thus making it unavailable for millions. This doesn't give the country a good rating. Also, the health of inhabitants are affected by the social conditions in the country, because better living and work environments make peoples lives less stressful and more happy and healthy. I'm not sure how sustainability fits with health, I'd say it's a part of the environment, but the environment also affects health, of course.
Political, personal and economic freedom (less needless control of the state is better) - Everyone have complete freedom in the dictionary sense which is stopped by consequences. These consequences can be the law, but it can also be other people which inhibit peoples' freedom. I think there's more freedom, especially personal freedom, in some parts of Europe, as opposed to some parts of USA where there are some very Conservative attitudes towards for example LGBT-people.
Social security - Welfare states "win", at least on the treatment of those.
Peacefulness - I think USA gets a 0 here. Scandinavia seems to have a very low spending on its military. Great Britain and other parts of Europe seems less good.
Crime rates - again. USA has very high crime rates compared to especially northern Europe.

Conclusion, when I wrote my ratings, I did take most of this into account in fact, even though I mostly mentioned tolerance, which was my big smash at the countries, because I think so many of them have insane views on people, whether it's by law or the attitudes within the society.
I was also assuming that you meant us to take many of these factors into account to begin with, but when you said I completely had not understood it and said not discriminating but tolerating other people had nothing to do with the quality of a country, I was simply confused and assumed you meant only the wealth. Because I think it has everything to do with the quality of the country.
I still see my ratings as fitting.

Me? I didn't mean to be mean. I'm just rating it according to how good I think it's doing according to the goals. As you can see, there are obviously some problems. As an example, it has the highest incarceration rate in the world, more than 10 times higher than Denmark.

I think there are thousands or millions of problems in all countries, many of them are small and some of them are big, and some of them are probably subjective.
How would you rate some of the countries? :)

Russia: 3
Korea: 2 (yes, I think both are bad)

I may change these when I look at the scale.

South corea deserves a good 6
North Korea is just wreckage, nothing more - only one, no zero, becouse there is no strong radiation.
