Update on Universe Sandbox for Schools, 2014

We are offering Universe Sandbox free to all those who wish to use it in their classrooms. If you are interested in using Universe Sandbox for educational purposes, please complete this Google Form: Universe Sandbox for Schools.

We will contact you shortly with further information about receiving a free copy for your school.

Please note: This offer is for the original Universe Sandbox, which is available only for PC. We have recently released the alpha version of Universe Sandbox Â² for PC, Mac, and Linux: universesandbox.com/2. We are not currently offering any educational discounts for Universe Sandbox Â².

Dan is the best news since the creation of the US! I will make a wide divulgation here in Brazil. I believe this is a unique tool for Brazilian teachers that rarely have in hands an educational tool of such quality.

As a teacher, I love this program. I teach both physics and mathematics in in Utah, and use this as a lab in physics and extra credit for my math class. Thank you for making it so available to the academic community.

Hi Dan/everyone,

I'm pretty excited that there's a free copy for schools and I have asked for it to be installed at school.

However, I am envisaging that "Steam for schools" will not work on my school's network (due to blocking by Council/ISP of the entire steam server subnet and local policies on PCs restricting application usage which will break steam updating assuming it works as the full Steam client does).

I personally have bought a few copies (am up to 4 now.... 2 x steam, one DRM free and one in April), so I can show it from my personal PC on the IWB, but it doesn't quite achieve the same thing as letting the pupils play God with planets.

I am therefore wondering if it is possible to get a license to use one of the none-steam versions on a school network?

Thanks for buying all those copies.

Officially, the only version that is free for schools is the Steam for Schools version. Unless your school's IT department is completely resistant, hopefully they'll see the advantage in making access possible in order to gain free software.

That said... if it will not work and they're unwilling to make the changes necessary, let me know.

How about physics classes? Idk about you but I think it's a very nice tool for schools. Plus, it's free.... even better.

I see use for demonstration and maybe some classwork.

Or even as an alternative to the textbook for simple learning like the planet names and sizes.

I am Adam and I am 7 1/2 years old. Please let me know if you are also a child and if you love Universe Sandbox as I do. I love space and playing with the Universe Sandbox. I wonder whether there are any other children playing with the Universe Sandbox? Sometimes I feel alone as my friends do not love space as much as I do. It is unfortunate that your passion for astronomy is not mutual throughout your social life, but I can assure you that this is the place you want to be if you like space.

(Lol edit your post and remove the personal info (age, location, etc) you don't know who or what could use that info for their personal gain.)
