took 2-3 ish days, went as far as 25k, 27k (not sure about signs)

stopped due to low bow durability and low helmet health
was running low on chicken (brought 3 stacks) and fireworks (brought 6 stacks)

so i'm starting a new challenge, like the one hour diamond challenge.

this time it's wood. given that wood is that one item that no one ever has enough of and is fairly annoying to collect, i want to see who has the most efficient farm and mining style.

rules:

1. as short or as long a time as you want. but i would recommend at least 15 minutes or so to ensure the variance of your estimate is low

2. you should leave your farm as you entered it. so if your usual strategy is to chop down a bunch of trees and then replant, you need to count the replanting time. if you're doing it in a forest and don't usually replant, then you don't need to count replanting time. if you like to use tnt to blow up trees, better count the time you spent setting up the tnt. etc.

3. measure rates in items/minute for easy comparison

anyway i tested my old tree farm from like 2012 and got around 97 wood / minute. since i spent around 10-20% of the time climbing ladders, i feel like using an enderpearl elevator would probably increase efficiency by 5-10%. other than that, the design is pretty solid, although it's a very simple plant and harvest farm.

43 wood/min (spruce only) by just planting redwoods/big spruce and staircasing upward to harvest wood, using a diamond axe, no enchants, for 16 minutes 10 seconds

maybe it could be improved with enchants (and also not falling off the tree while going down because it would keep pressing a key i'm not pressing anymore for some reason)?

yeah my run was using haste 2 eff 5, that might have an effect.

Using atomic's method but with eff 5 haste 2 I got 66/min. Whatever your 2012 design is, it's not bad :P

hmm elytra is a good technique, although i think an enderpearl elevator would be faster and allow for finer-grained control on how high you go

I built a Spigot modified Iron Phoenix. That was what I got from afking overnight at 75% efficiency.

Proof that it works at 100%. All 64 villages are stacked onto the top of each other, you can see every door is registered and at 22 doors per village (the lines) there is 64 villages. It uses some wizardry to create 64 villages in a central location instead of one massive village. It took 4 days to make. One day for the placing of the platforms, bulk redstone and doors. One day for the redstone. Two days for debugging the build process. It still isn't 100%, sometimes it won't build fully and I can't diagnose why but at this point I'm giving up, it builds 100% perfectly sometimes at least! At 100% efficiency it produces just under 2600 iron per hour (or quite literally, 64 of the traditional individual iron cells that do 40 iron per hour). That is about a two double chests of iron blocks per day.

anyway an overview of a particular subsystem of the slime farm collection system, which i designed entirely by myself.

so the input to the system is the item elevator, which brings slime balls up to a 2x2x1 region (1 high). so the simplest solution is just to put 4 hoppers there, but that doesn't work because due to the mechanism which stacks many dropped items, the item stacks tend to accumulate only at the north-west hopper, which results in imbalanced distribution.

nor is it sufficient to simply redistribute the contents of that hopper, since the bandwidth of a single hopper is 9k/hour, and the farm produces more than that. so it is necessary to have 4 separate hoppers taking input from the item elevator

the solution (see picture 1) is to have a 2x2 water stream which goes into 4 hoppers, but the stream is controlled by two pistons, which only allows 1 of 2 source blocks to flow, "aiming" the stream so that items prefer 2 of the 4 hoppers at a time.

picture 2: i made use of QC here in order to maximize the amount of glass i could use. notice the outward facing pistons which are essential. note that exactly one of the two pistons is always powered

picture 3: the main meat is here. the whole system is powered by a 12-hopper clock, which activates the zero-tick t-flip-flop circuit using the ability of sticky pistons to drop blocks. the redstone block then powers the pistons.
