planet temperature level from it's star rage.
« on: December 20, 2010, 05:08:08 PM »
I thing it could be possible to see the planet temperature range to a hot Jupiter to a vary cold gas giant from the star rang exp. hot  Jupiter is 00.7 AU from the star and the cold gas giant is 45.6 AU from it's star that would be cool to see in Universe Sandbox 2 to see the planet temperature level change when it get near to it's star and get far from it's star. ;D

Maybe it'd be more probable as another statistic. However, I'd like to see this and, for gas giants, Maybe a calculation to change its temperature because Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune emit more heat then they get from the Sun.  ;D

Well coz Jupiter puts out more heat than it gets from the Sun, and so do Neptune and Saturn. For rocky planets, it isn't as hard because its a statistic. So planets would have to have an option for if it's a gas giant or not.

Like this:

You would have to factor in atmosphere, and albedo still.

1,700 F at 00.6 AU and -135 F at 23.9 AU  8)

Interesting idea. Calcuating representative temperatures of planets and moon is on the list. And while heating up an object increases its volume, therefore decreasing its density, I doubt I'll be adding math to model this. As I suspect the work would outweigh the impact or coolness of this feature. Let me know if I'm wrong. :)

Well wouldn't rocky planets closer actually have a higher density due to being made out of higher density materials such as iron?

True, but that's not what their asking about. He's talking about heating up a body.

yup plus thats only in or solarsystem not in others.
or could the heat make the planets outer layers dissipate making it loose some of its mass

Maybe dust can come out of the planet?

I'd really like comet tails though, and dust does come out of planets on impact.
