Civilization 5
« on: September 21, 2010, 10:52:06 AM »
While I just noticed I hadn't checked Civilization 5 out for a while, looking through it's reviews, I noticed it's releasing today. :P

Is anyone else going to get it? To me, it sounds awesome with the new hexagonal tiles, and the new graphics look awesome.

Edit: Found out it's released in North America on Sep 21, rest of the world Sep 24.

Okay. :)

But... I'm sure you wouldn't be able to resist the hexagonal grid... And the ranged combat... And the fact that cities now have defenses based on their population by themselves, and can be sieged for long realistic siege battles... And units can't be stacked, making strategy much deeper than just outproducing the enemy... And the new graphics and natural landscapes possible with the hexagonal grid... And the fact that it's no longer a good idea to build roads on all your tiles... And the reduction of the importance of micromanagement... And the fact that you don't have to jump around the map in the start, cycling through everything idle, but rather being linked to the locations and events needing your attention by small notification buttons... And the city states of course!

Sorry, couldn't resist. :(

And if anyone's interested, a demo is now available through Steam, read this:

Get the demo. :)

If it won't make you want it even more... Hmm... Try finding something else you want even more which is cheaper so you can maybe forget about Civilization 5. :P

My brother getting it for me.

It's kinda funny that I met Germany, Rome, and Egypt kings/president/etc. on one island/continent lol. I met Hanoi (capital city of Vietnam currently in the real world) too, but it was a city-state.

By the way, Old Faithful (coincedence?) is in here. The island/continent which looks like de U.S. on the eastern coastz.

Yay, now I have Civ 5. It's awesome. I'd wish I had no homework and could just play it. It even works on my computer. I thought it would crash constantly in the start, as it crashed a few times, but it has worked for hours afterwards. Awesome game.

Having played every version of Civilization since its inception, I concur, Civilization V is awesome (but not without its quirks).

That's a good summary of Everything Else: "the section that we make strange topics in". :)

I've been a die-hard civver since the first version. Naturally, I got Civ 5 as well :)
I like it so far, but it does need patching. Wouldn't surprise me if most of the stability issues are caused by the steam DRM, though.
It does seem to have lost a bit of depth since Civ 4, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun.
It certainly is pretty :)
Haven't really had time to dive into it properly yet, but that's what the next few days are for  :P

I tried out the Pangea and Earth map. Didn't explore all of Pangea, but I don't recognize it... haha. For the Earth map one, looks weird.

Pangea just generates a world with one big continent, which is random. It's not Earth-Pangea. :)

So far I really like a map with 'small continents'. I started on a continent with only one other nation, and the rest were scattered on other continents. There are many ways to the other continents because there aren't big oceans seperating them, so you can sail around most of them early in the game when you couldn't enter the oceans. That was an awesome way of exploring the map.

Highlands is also very exciting if you like to have defensive points rather than having a huge border, which can be very hard to defend.

Funny thing: The Ottomans asked me to declare war on Montezuma and I accepted. After that, four city-states decared war on Montezuma LOL. Probably Ottoman Empire's allies.
