Climate On Planets
« on: April 09, 2016, 11:36:02 AM »
After a bunch of messing around with the code of planets I replaced the temperature tab on a custom planet with the climate tab.

How I did this was by saving Earth as a body then opening the .ubox file for both with winrar and opening body.json.
Than I copied this code
"},{
"AlbedoFlag":true,
"Snowball":false,
"InfraredA":213.98,
"CarbonDioxidePPMV":389.85,
"UseClimateScenario":false,
"IncrementCO2":false,
"EmissionRateCO2":72882.6019722666,
"DepositionRateCO2":38025.7053768347,
"InfraredB":1.7,
"DiffusionConstMagnitude":0.44,
"HadleyFlag":true,
"LandHeatCapacity":1420.2,
"WaterHeatCapacity":3830.8,
"CouplingCoefficient":3,
"LatentHeatCO2Flag":false,
"$type":"ClimateComponent"
}]"
from Earth and putting it at the bottom of the custom planet's code, I updated the archive and restarted the game and my planet had a climate tab.

-I used Notepad++    https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.9.1.html
-and Winrar     http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Next I am going to try texturing planets, if I can... I won't give up.

Could you do a step by step video on this at some point? My planet still doesn't seem to have a climate.After following the steps? These are the two custom planet's i tried to edit.

Please keep in mind that this manual tinkering with files can permanently break your simulation.
Make sure you create a backup of whatever you're changing. We cannot recover files for you ;)

Also note that the climate simulation is specially configured for Earth and Mars and will not yield any realistic results on any other planet. We are working on a general solution that will replace the current Climate and work on any planet.

I came across this after testing this out on several random planet's. I will turn the climate system off for now. I can wait for a more stable version.

yes i know i found this out when I made a planet not spawn in completely that's why I didn't use it on planets I like. I know it doesn't yield any realistic results but it is still cool that i can use polar ice caps.

Also while i was looking through the code I saw an option for "ShowAurora" what is that?

I am going to guess that it is a feature that will be added in the future.
