Meh.
If the collisions/explosions were better, I would like it. 😒

Well, I Google the sim. Apparently it's very new. Pre alpha stage from what I've seen.
Looks like UniverseSandbox 2 might have some compatition. 😎

Interesting. I doubt they've gotten anywhere near as far as US2, but the video looks nice. I'm guessing the US staff will keep a close eye on this one. :) Competition is a good thing IMO.

That said, I think it's suspicious that they offer virtually no information about the product or the people behind it.

We're always excited to see others who are as passionate about simulating reality as we are. I wish them success  in their pursuit of a very exciting and challenging problem. We'll add them to a list of other apps on our FAQ.

And to be fair... Universe Sandbox was a clone of other gravity simulators that came years before it, so no need to critique them for that. My interest in gravity simulators started back in middle school when my Dad showed me this very simple gravity simulator with CGA graphics and I've been fascinated ever since. Perhaps Universe Sandbox might be that inspiration for the creator of SciXP/Milky Way.

And the game does run... it's in a rar compressed format. You can use 7-Zip to extract it...

It does seem quite similar to the original 2010 version of Universe Sandbox in its graphics, but it does look like a decent simulation, especially for one so early in development. Then again, US is also in early development, but a later stage. :D

Thank you very much, Dan.

You are very right about Universe Sandbox as my inspiration to develop Milky Way. I hope that this competition will draw many more people's attention to astronomy.

I Downloaded it an tried it...

At the moment you can only make two orbiting black holes and measure ist gravitational waves... :/

There was I time when the simulations of the universe were too rare or not powerful enough (honestly, they were just unavailable). Glad that these times have passed.

Now looking forward for realistic tectonic evolution and (or with) life evolution sims.

you are wrong with your calculators. Your video is cool but wrong. The black hole would have the same gravitational pull as the sun did but would be in a tighter space and wouldn't be giving of heat. Therefore the planets would still circle it as they did when the sun was around. Yes we would die because of the cold but the planets could survive.

i think its good if US2 has competition. They will be pushing each other to the limits and that might spark a lot of new content in both games

That game is still in alpha man
