1. Good idea.

2. Destroying is much easier, assuming there is no enemy military to protect it, but that's not the case.

3. Agreed, we can always make the map bigger but I honestly think it'll just make all the calculations more complicated and cause more errors.

4. Yes, the problem is just to keep things as simple as possible. If I make the benefit of tech a power function below 1 like it is now, people will just start out taking some tech and leave it as it is until they've completely developed their nation. If I make it a linear function, people will either focus almost only on tech because it gives bigger benefits than infrastructure, or again wait until they've developed all of their nation. Making things require tech in mid-game is a good way to get it into the mid-game, but the problem is that it makes the rules complicated, people might forget it and I might forget it as well when I check the maps.

2. you should have to pay for the military? or at least make it cost something! right now its just a wall that takes more for the enemy to destroy that it takes you to build.
4. maybe make tech helpful to war? like can take farther regions cheaper? that gives incentive for early game (to colonize) middle game (for war/take over ur base) and end game (make it a power function that is relatively ineffecient compared to building)

2. To make the game as simple as possible, the city levels represent different levels of military as well. It is cheaper to build than conquer because it gives the military a defensive bonus, which decreases the losses.

4. True, but usually you don't expand more than one zone away during a turn, at least you can rarely afford it (in the earlier games, at least). The war bonus is somewhat useful. I think tech should give some of that kind of bonuses and unlock higher levels. But again, we risk people just upgrading their tech to a certain number "just to get past that bonus" and not touch tech until much later, when they need other bonuses. Maybe...

Or at least build/destroy price is equal.

4.well them make the higher-tech semi-important/essential so there is a big risk and payoff in researching tech.

also with the "war bonus" maybe tech/x=% less resources needed? x could be anything
if no then what was your idea

and also tech should unlock higher level structures. this would help with your middle-game dilema? people will upgrade tech as soon as all land is taken and structures are being built.

and maybe
this is just a wild idea out there
um, have a prohibitive amount of resources (anywhere from 300-2000?)(assmuing the ability to upgrade extractors will boost everyone's economy by a significant amount). And high level tech (3000-5000?) to unlock the ability to fill in a spot of ocean with land. land can as city? or anything? no idea here.

I sort of agree with 4. I'll try to make it simple.

2 - I think it's realistic enough that cities can act as shields. That's exactly why I changed them. They're still worth taking, because they can give you benefits in the long term, it's only in the short term they aren't worth it. That way wars should be more harsh, take longer time and may wave more back and forth. I decreased the distance penalty to make a bit up for it, so the gameplay should be more tactical rather than just "take all enemy zones you border, if you can".

5. Wild idea - I prefer to keep the maps as they are from when the game start, and to just let people fill in spots on the map. It makes it more easy for people. Also, I make sea zones bigger than land zones for strategic reasons, plus they don't fit the continental shapes, so it wouldn't look very good.

An idea...
Maybe, there should be a fee to maintain nation. Fee determined by number of regions owned Larger nation has a larger fee. Make the fee be parabolic...function...but tweak it so that the cost is not too high. This will...help a slightly dominant nation from taking over faster, and faster, and faster. Also encourages alliances...?

And maybe, or not, tech reduces cost. Revolutions nations should have doubled maintenance fees for two turns to simulate chaos and corruption.nations at war should receive a similar penalty. Maybe 30 to 50 percent.

Oh and as an incentive for warring, maybe get a pillage for taking over a province I mean region?  Stealing ideas from AE here.
You'd have to make sure this isn't exploitable. The net gain or loss should equal...0...right?

Also typing on an iPad is really tedious...

Tip: If you update to iOS 5.0 through iTunes, you can hold down on the keyboard button on the right column on the bottom, and you get Split and Undock. Splitting splits the keyboard in half and undocks it and places it to the middle, where undock just does the same thing without splitting the keyboard. It may make it easier to type. For me it didn't help at all at the Apple store. :-[

Now I'm going to update the rules somewhen soon, probably in different edits at different times.

What would you people say to if I put the rules inside a Word document instead of the first post? Or is that a problem?
