Flagvision! [WINNER]
« on: June 07, 2014, 05:45:33 PM »
The goal of the contest is to submit your favorite/the best flags from certain categories, and then the community votes for the best!

The theme is sovereign state flags!

Submit to me by PM your favorite 3 flags (to cut down on not voting on ~200 flags) after viewing the above wikipedia page by June 11. I could consider pushing this deadline back to Sunday if needed/wanted. Or sooner. In any case, I will compile a list of submissions, and then all participants will be able to vote for the best 5 flags, Univision style to determine the best flag.

Voting is open! You can vote on the 5 flags you think are the best from the submissions. First place receives 10 points, second receives 7, third 5, fourth 3, fifth 1. You only need to send me a list of the countries' flags you are voting on and their placing (first through fifth) via PM by Sunday. Within the following week I will be preparing the presentation graphics, and I'll announce the revealing day then.

Submissions (a.k.a. you can't submit these anymore):
Albania
Bhutan
Cambodia
Estonia
Indonesia
Kenya
Kiribati
Macedonia
Micronesia
Montenegro
Monaco
Poland
Saint Lucia
Transnistria
Vietnam

5 people have sent submissions.

The "owner" of the flags, the participant who has submitted them, will be shown when the votes are presented.

That is the point, though :P

OC could be an edition in the future

How's this for an idea... the winner gets to pick the theme for the next edition (which may or may not be the same theme as the previous) and as long as I find it reasonable, that's the theme!

That is, if people are interested in another.

I'm thinking present votes later today (Friday) at around 21 UTC, or else Saturday same time. Thoughts?

The votes are in and the graphics are ready.

Ladies and gentleman and all people alike, across all borders and all seas! Welcome to Flagvision! Today we will be revealing some of the best flags in the world... Vexillology experts like you have participated and have determined the best flags from countries around the world.

Some quick information before we get started:
Votes will be presented in the order that they were received. In the event that two or more flags have the same amount of points, ties will be broken based on the highest score they received in one vote, and then how many of these highest scores they received. If this still does not break the tie, positions will be awarded in alphabetical order.

And now we will reveal the participants and their flags:

TheMooCows   - Indonesia, Monaco, Poland
matty406 - Albania, Estonia, St. Lucia
atomic7732 - Kiribati, Micronesia, Montenegro
Bla - Macedonia, Transnistria, Vietnam
Darvince - Bhutan, Cambodia, Kenya

The votes will be revealed shortly.

Next, we have our host, atomic7732. Here are his votes:

Albania takes the lead, as atomic7732 cannot vote for his own flags, and several more flags are added to the board.

Third, we have our friendly Dane, Bla:

Now we are at the midpoint of the contest. Bla has voted for all three of Darvince's flags. Kiribati moves up to second, while Albania retains its lead! It is really anybody's win at this point... (other than TheMooCows) Our board is now full with the top nine. The rest are not going to be shown.

Now to our fourth voter, matty406:

Another 10 points to Montenegro. It takes the lead as matty406 cannot vote for his own flag. Saint Lucia drops off the board as well as Macedonia jumps up to seventh.

As Darvince cannot vote for his flag, and Vietnam in fifth is 12 points behind, only the top three flags have a chance at winning... Our next voter will determine the winner.

Finally, Darvince's votes:

A spectacular way to vote for the final voter, giving points to the top two flags... and they tie!
We look at the tiebreaking rules derived from Univision to see that, as Montenegro received 10 points twice...

The winner of the first Flagvision! is Montenegro! Congratulations Montenegro for having the best country flag, as determined by Flagvision!

Thanks to all users for their participation, we'll see you all next time, and we hope to see a few more.
