History and Events Icons
« on: April 05, 2014, 03:57:24 AM »
I think a cool feature for stars would be to see what they were like in the past. For example, if we placed UY Scuti(is that in the game yet?) into the simulator and then go to the age panel and make it younger it would shrink and heat up. Also, maybe the same thing could be implemented for planets, as in plate tectonics. You could have a button that said "Enable Plate Tectonics" and the continents would start to move around randomly. This would be a very complex feature to install, and you would have to deal with issues of continents passing through each other and mountains and volcanoes and earthquakes and tsunamis and... Well, let's just say that this won't be implemented for a very, very long time.

Also I think that, when placing bodies, the object in question should be translucent because, when I was watching Nutt007's hilarious video about the bugs in universe sandbox, he was placing many bodies, and when he was moving his cursor around, I saw a Deimos flying around randomly at variable speeds, and I was so confused.

Also, increasing the lava level should do something to the atmosphere.

Can we explore the history of a body? Like a SP§RE timeline? For eg., if you collide, say, Ceres into the Moon and then click "Open History" under "More Info" there will be an icon of a medium sized body colliding with earth and it will say: "[time of collision] Ceres collided with the moon, thus destroying it" or just "[time of collision] Ceres collided with the moon". And there can be a history for the whole simulation. Also stuff like changed water level or changed mass will be recorded.
Ideas for icons:
"Open History" button: Clock showing 4:00, the bigger portion of the clock being filled in.
Collision: Earth and Thea collision
Changed Mass: Wrench with cube next to it.
Changed Volume: Wrench next to X-Y-Z axis
Changed Density: Wrench next to three small cubes in pyramid pattern
Changed Water Level: Wrench next to raindrop
Changed MoltenFactor: Wrench next to erupting volcano
Changed Atmosphere mass: Wrench next to gust of wind
Changed atmosphere color: Paint palette and brush next to a gust of wind
Changed Orbit: Wrench next to a planet orbiting a star
Added body: A + sign
Deleted body: A — sign or a pop sign ( ten lines faced away from each other in a circular configuration)
Exploded body: An exploding planet, like the icon in US 2009
Changed vegetation level (if it will exist): Wrench next to a tree
Changed Axis: Wrench next to Earth with polar axis lines showing and 2 arrows indicating polar reverse
Changed velocity: Wrench next to fading arrow
Planet destroyed by Stellar Expansion/Supernova: Shockwave sweeping away Earth
Stellar Expansion: Sun icon with arrows pointing away from it.
Supernova/Nova: Explosion with arrows pointing away from it.
Changed Composition: Wrench next to a circle that is half-earth, half-pie chart
Changed Rotational period: Wrench next to earth with an arrow going around it
Added ring: + and a ring
Deleted ring: — and a ring
Changed ring: Wrench and ring

Tell me if I missed anything!  :)

It's a fantastic idea!
I know it will be for alpha 8

Thanks!

I would like to see more feedback on my ideas, though. I really like the icon idea and hope it gets through to GA.

another idea would be that when the sun grows old'' kill'' the earth and other planets.

They grow and explode anyway but I'm unsure if it can engulf a planet that's too close.
