At least 300 died. So at least it wasn't as deadly as the one in Haiti.

Yeah, may people that know nothing were probably like, "WHy isn't this worse?". TWC was saying that since they have better infrastructure, there was a low predicted death toll.

It is incredible how a better infrastructure can make the difference between a few hundred dead and hundreds of thousands of deaths. Can it be the only reason? In the Haiti-earthquake, the epiccenter was in the middle of the capital. What about the height? Here it was 35 km beneath the surface. This time it was also slightly offshore, but it didn't create a huge tsunami.

True. I think Haiti had several 7.0 earthquakes.
