I still think it would look much better if you shaded the planet, so it could look 3-dimensional.
I'm amazed about the planet, it looks so great. Try to keep making them that way. Great job. I think the way you made stars before is better though.
Have a look at this project - it demonstrates one way you can easily achieve the sphere effect without dealing with 3D. It should work with Photoshop 7, as far as I can tell - nothing newfangled in it The first layer starts out as pure black. Then you make a circular selection and paint inside that. When done, use Filters->Distort->Spherize. That makes it look like a sphere. The second layer is set to Multiply, and provides the illusion of lighting.
