Hello, glad to be part of the alpha testing. Are the requirements still the same as the original post? I can't get it to launch in Windows XP.

If you can't get the game to launch, please post your debugging logs, or any error messages you receive. You can see how to find the logs in the link below.

We should make an FAQ and LFAQ sticky topic in this board.

WhAt would be the max requirements for the game? If I plan to run it with max settings, Yahoo see I plan to purchase an Origin lap top and I'm marketing sure it can run it smoothly (assuming I get it).

I have this Universe Sadbox :)

Can't wait, when you can see effects of supernova on planets with intelligent life depending on distance. Buts that in 10 - 30 years, computers/programming isn't that sophisticated yet.

For now its still waay better than previous version of  Universe Sandbox :D

10-30 years? More like a couple months of hard concentrated work.

And what effects would a supernova have on intelligent life?

I was thinking about something like accurate life/civilization simulation (like climate simulation/stellar evolution/collision on full release), that would require low time steofor accuracy.
Now you can't just zap thousands of years in planetary system/climate simulation to see effects of changing orbit/precession of Earth. These calculations are done in supercomputers now, but in 20 years our computers will be more powerful. Just compare with average computers of 1994 year.

It depends: Closest planets would lose all life (or even get molten), farther ones would lose multicellular/intelligent life or civilizations depending on distance.
Farther ones would get disrupted, or notice it shining and reacting to it, displaying some flavor text in planetary information.
For now supernovas just fry everything.

*Time step

That still would only take less than a year to do if they really focused on just that.

Well, but then time step should be much larger than one day. I can't run solar system faster than 200 days/second before mercury's orbit deteriorates.
I was thinking about hardware requirements for running solar system at 10 or 100 years/second, not difficulty of programming ;)

Oh, I see. But that too would probably only take a max of 10 years, I think.

Dan has bright future - he can add more and more complex features, as computers gets better ;)

Not just Dan. He has a whole team now.

The bright future you speak of will also be in the hands of Christian Herold, Georg Steinröhder, Thomas Grønneløv, Eric Hilton, Naomi Goldenson, Chad Jenkins, and Jared Meier.

Nice :D

I wonder what will be in finished product.
