Video demonstration of the new Universe Sandbox
« on: September 04, 2012, 06:55:39 AM »
The entire team presented a live demo of the next version of Universe Sandbox at Unity's Unite 2012 Conference in Amsterdam.

Watch the Video
Unite 2012 - Creating the Universe with Unity

And there's even more awesome features to come...

Who's on stage? The entire Universe Sandbox team:

Those are some amazing features and graphics, custom 3D charts, stellar evolution, supernovae, fluid cloud simulation. Can't wait to try the next version. :)

thats more of what i wanted in US from the start

it not only looks awesome but beautiful  as well love the bit with the star going bang too but the bubbling surfaces of the stars and the clouds for the gas planets all moving gives it the extra edge in realism

wish we could all do testing on it like the original

Dan  I see gas there went I saw that star going supernova  and a fluid simulation  that's Cool!

I'm looking forward  for this beta  later on. :D

Awesome x100! :D

It will be cool beta testing this later on.

Also, I know its still at an early stage and the skins and stuff are still being worked on, but Betelguese (sp?) needs to be red (or a reddish orange maybe).

That galaxy collision looked beautiful.

One question out of curiosity, what was that bright background object? Initially I mstook it for another star, but it's clearly in the background.

Good question... it's in the background image, but not sure what it is off-hand. Perhaps we should have used another angle during the demo of making your own solar system. We hope to replace that background with a better quality background before launch.

Dan  I see gas there went I saw that star going supernova  and a fluid simulation  that's Cool!

They cut away during the demo of the stellar evolution, but yep... supernovas and fluid simulations. :)

I'm looking forward  for this beta  later on. :D

Yes... closed beta by the end of the year. :)

Maybe its a bright nebula or cluster or something.

I wish they hadn't as I wanted to see the supernova. The collision system looks good, but I think we'd all like to see a collison between two larger objects :)

Also, the cloud collapse simulation can be recreated in our own way? As in we can create our own customized cloud collapse and accretion disk and it will evolve into a solar system with planets?

The smooth method of placing objects looks great.

We didn't show that because it doesn't look good yet, but it is a major priority of the new version.

That feature is still super early on... but probably... yes.

Yes... the current version already considers the temperature and the color is affected by this. In the next version (v3) the size of the granule is also determined by the properties of the star.

What is a granule?

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD,  :o :o My dreams have come true this looks amazing.

i got a few questions for Giant army.

Q1: Are you guys going to add shock waves when something hits a planet with an atmosphere?

Q2: Will it be possible to start a solar system using fluid cloud simulation and a supernova? (be nice to leave it for a day and come back and see a planet like earth in orbit  ;D )

Q3: Will atmospheres fade if hit by something big like moon size (atmosphere strip?)

Q4: will city lights go off if a small object hits a populated area.

Q5: will there be reentry effects for asteroids?

you don't have to answer all of these id just thought id ask  :)

This question is from more of a creative perspective: Will custom planet maps still work?
