1. normal death, you cease to exist for all eternity
2. after death you can still think normally with your current capabilities of thought and memory and so forth, yet without sensory input for all eternity

what do you mean by that?
not that this affects the validity of your view point, which i think i sort of understand, but it's really a fatalistic idea to suggest that even the very act of thought will kill you.
as if the fundamental effect of conscious thought is as a lethal toxin.

ok the thing about people who feel trapped in scenario 2 is, don't you realize you are already trapped?

human beings are unimaginably constrained already. to another alien species, the human condition probably sounds as horrifying to them as scenario 2 sounds to us.

morever, don't you realize that we are already trapped in our brains? that piece of cake sitting in front of you. you don't even know if it exists! that cake only exists inside your mind, and so does everything else in the world.

sure, you might to mad a few times in this eternity, but can it really be that in all of infinite time, you cannot devise a method to amuse yourself? do you truly believe yourself to be so incapable of adapting to the world around you?

if you still "exist" after you die eventually someone will find out a way to pull you back into existence by getting ur memories into a computer or something like that, so you won't realize you're in "the void" at all because since there is no time there everything in real life happens instantly to you

but what I'm actually wondering is how the "entity of you" or memories and mind put together/consciousness ~~tries to steer uncontrollably around the word soul~~ exists

The point of this thought exercise, however, isn't so much how this state comes to be, but rather, which one you would rather choose. As skirt is very afraid of nothingness, he chose the second option.

I think I'd choose 1. 2 might give lots of options for interesting thoughts, but it doesn't sound very enjoyable with no sensory input.

i only care about socialization because biology so it wouldn't make much difference to me

plus, after a long enough time, our personalities would become so intermixed that the two of us would be virtually one person, having the same knowledge and memories of our time in this nothingness, becoming one. but it would be cool while it lasted for the first 100000 years.

No matter the amount of people, I don't really imagine it to be an enjoyable life only being able to share thoughts with people. Then again it's very hard to imagine what it's like, but the closest I can come is a bit like lying inactive in a hospital bed all the time and only being able to talk to people. Even if feeling no pain, it doesn't seem very enjoyable.

I'd still choose 1, no matter what.
My point being, no sensory input sounds frightening and if I don't know that I'm dead once I'm dead, I'd much rather prefer that over anything else.
