this is garbage but any practice is good practice so read if yo udare it's like fiahfics but it's not bad enough to be good

“Did you get the drawings done for Solea? I wanted to try and get everything assembled this weekend.” Fiah said.

“Yeah, yeah they’re done. I’ll bring them to the meetup this weekend.” Kal replied. She actually hadn’t gotten started on them yet. Though, in fairness, her major had a reputation for keeping students up into the morning hours on a nightly basis. They shouldn’t be too hard to finish, though - and if she didn’t want to draw then she could just ask Dar, who seemed to do everything she did while simultaneously doing absolutely nothing.

“Perfect!” Fiah smiled. She liked it when everything went right, and was glad that Kalassak had been actually keeping up with her drawing assignments for once. She couldn’t wait to assemble the full map on Saturday. Fiah decided that she was going to stop for some snacks on the way to her apartment, but she didn’t want to go alone... “Alright, thanks Kal. Just wanted to check up quickly on that; have a great day! What class do you have next again?”

“Eh, just Native American Water Astrology Politics Hurricanes.” Kal said. She had legitimately no idea why she was even here anymore. Please, someone just give her her degree and let her just move back to the outback.

“Impressive, haha.” Fiah replied. She wasn’t sure whether or not she wanted to share her next class with Kal because she was paranoid that Kal would think that she was one-upping her. Though in reality, Kal would just nod, be impressed for a second or two then go back to focusing on her own problems. “Well, see you then. Good luck.” Fiah paused, “Pai.” Was that enough of a goodbye? She didn’t actually say goodbye anywhere in that sentence, she just implied it several times through other similar statements.

Fiah cut across the avenue and walked through the park, looking around for anyone she knew. She spotted Syule on a bench. Walking up closer, she saw that Syule was doing some sort of meditation.

“Hi Floenne.” Syule said, smiling. Fiah wasn’t sure if that smile was real or not. Syule wasn’t sure if anything was real or not.

“Heyy, what’s up?” Fiah said without thought. Did she really mean to say it, or was it just habit that made her greet Syule like that?

“Great, you?” Syule said. Maybe a conversation was like a machine; input state is fed, output state is returned. Maybe there was no free will, no way to say anything but “Good” when someone asks you “How you’re doing?”. Syule would need to read at least three more scientific papers about the theory behind social interaction if she was to have a shot at answering this question.

“So, uh, I was wondering if you wanted to maybe come hang out after school?” Fiah said. That was bad. Indirect, not even what she wanted to do in its entirety - how could she weasel her way so much around what she actually wanted to say? Fiah stuttered, “Y’know, go get some snacks?”

Syule thought for a moment. Was Fiah really looking to buy some snacks, or do something else? Her initial statement was quite vague - hang out could mean anything. But by specifying afterwards that perhaps the activity in question would be to purchase food, it’s possible that Fiah was trying to soften the broad and possibly emotionally distressing idea of simply “hanging out” by suggesting an example activity that she did not really want to do. Or it could be the complete opposite, that possibly Fiah wanted to really buy food, but was too shy to ask the question directly. Syule would need more time to deliberate on this. Perhaps five minutes would be enough. “Oh, I don’t know. . . I’ll have to think about that.”

“Oh, ok. . . No problem.” Fiah replied. She asked a vague question, and Syule gave a vague answer. Syule didn’t really imply that she would accept Fiah’s proposal to hang out after school, so it’s probable that Syule didn’t actually want to hang out with Fiah. Not that it matters - this is why Fiah had spent a lot of time earlier trying to make friends, so that there’d always be something interesting to do.

Fiah skipped through the park and forgot to go to class, instead a little bit too excited to find Swonx, who was rumoured to have once spoken seven different languages in a single sentence.
