Ooh, I've got something! Why does every food advert have to sex everything up? (Not that there is a problem with sex, but it's just one little aspect of life. Why don't we make everything blue lol?) Surely there are other ways lol.

The ads just do whatever works at increasing their sales as much as possible. It doesn't matter if it's honest, appropriate or moral. As long as it's legal, they'll go right to the line to get people to buy as much stuff they don't need as possible. Let's ban them all and get rid of that filth.

Adverts don't force you to buy things. Some use cues to make the thing seem more desirable, sure, and some really exploit insecurities & expectations (these exploitss are the worst and could do with some more regulation) but whether or not the message is heeded is down to the individual.
