I awake beside a green-tinted lake. A gentle wind rustles through my thoughts. Why am I here? What is the meaning of reality?

I walk over to the edge for a sip of the water, but as my hand reaches into the icy lake, I hesitate. What is this place?

Instead, I walk along a slightly worn path until I reach a neatly built hut. I don't understand any of these words, but neither does reality.
As I enter, someone taps me on the shoulder. It is a cat.
Hello, she says, and how might she help me?
Well, I answer, let's start where I am.
A lake in Rishiri Island, she says, just off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan.
Would you please come with me, I ask. The world is too big for just one of us.

After a bit more walking, we come across some busses, which will take us either to civilization or the depths of hell.
Or so I'm told by Sora, at any rate.
We board a bus and she starts driving.

The view is quite exquisite.

Well, I was born on that mountain-top. Yes, that high, snow-capped one right there, she says.
That doesn't make any sense, I'm about to say.
That doesn't make any sense at all.
I catch a view of a town, and stay silent.
Some things are better left unknown, such as why I happen to have a million yen in my purse.

Strolling down a street, I think I finally have an answer.
I'm craving some deep-fried fish cake -- some Satsuma-age, which they make down south in Kagoshima.
Sora gives me a long hard look as the sun slowly sets.

We board the ferry, lost in thoughts as deep as the pockets of my dress.
Which is to say, not nearly deep enough.
And I'd like to mention that I got quite drunk on sake on that boat, and awoke to find that we had reached land and Sora had carried me off the ferry.
