Tried it out. Pretty cool.

Also planets are not considered a "he" or "she" :D

Unless you talk about the good old gods of ancient Rome and Greece. ;)

I suspect that witold's native language describes the planets in terms of gender.

And to witold... I'm very impressed with your knowledge of English (even given the occasional grammatical error). I wish I knew more than one language when I was 14. That's awesome.

Possibly. I guess if you base it off the gods gender then it is possible.

I would love to know languages other than English, too!

While I'm no expert on language, it probably doesn't have anything to do with being named after gods (which had gender).

In some languages, like French, every noun is either known as masculine or feminine, even chairs, pencils, headphones, and computers.

This isn't super clear, but here's an entire article on the topic:

The list at the bottom may be the most interesting:

in german, evry noun must have a gender.
The planets have genders too.
sun=female
mercury=male
venus=female
earth=female
mars=male
jupiter=male
saturn=male
uranus=male
neptune=male

all the other objects in space follow the same rules. So are the stars Rigel, Antares or Beteigeuze male, while Vega is female.

Those are according to the Greek gods(or Roman). Well Rome copied Greece so what does it matter.

I decide what matters for me, not you...
If you have any problem, then say it...

I´m german, i speak german, english is just secondary lanfuage that i learn at school.

You have no right to say it doesn´t matter.

You misunderstood. I said it doesn't matter if the origins are Greek or Roman because the ancient Romans copied the Greek gods. I was just adding information to explain why the planets genders are what they are, the genders of the Greek(or Roman) gods that they're named after. Sorry If I wasn't clear.

But in german language objects like Sonne (sun), Erde (earth) Mond (moon) have total different name than greek. They have our own names.

Yes but I'm pretty sure they're still the gods. Many names change with the languages like: Matt-Mateo Julie-Julia Joseph-Jose George-Jorge (English-Spanish). Even if the names change the gods still remain the same.

That is wrong. German language has no relation to greek or latin.

The major objects of our solar system: Sun, earth and moon have specific german names. Or do you think the german people waited 4000 years to name that objects when they saw them evry day? ha ha ha ha ha

Wrong... Here is proof.

Development

The German language, directly behind English is the second most popular Germanic language spoken today. Along with its extensive use as a second language, German has a total number of native speakers reaching approximately 98,000,000. Although Germanic languages branch from the Indo-European language family the original words and names have been traced to Latin roots. The first historical written document of the Germanic languages is the Gothic Bible which is assumed to have been translated about AD 350. All Germanic languages are believed to have stemmed from a parent language which we call Proto-Germanic. The Proto-Germanic language is a branch of the Indo-European language. The Proto-Germanic languages differ from the Indo-European languages in subtle phonological and grammatical changes, one of which is called the consonant shift, commonly referred to as Grimm's law. The German language specifically, developed as its own language sometime in the late 19th-century. The following diagram, composed by linguistic scholars in an attempt to explain the phenomenon of different dialects of different geographical areas nicely illustrates this development. Linguists continue to stress, however, that a language tree as such may create very definite splits when in fact language dialects tend to be better defined as blends. Back to top

Sonne, Mond and Erde have nothing to do with greek and latin shit.
