Title: what's your computer back up stack
Post by: vh on August 05, 2020, 09:23:00 AM
i just finished fixing my setup (broken cause dropbox was being dumb)

borg for encryption, compression, and deduplication
borgmatic for handling retention
a secondary ssd for storing the actual backed-up data
rclone for pushing the data to remote storage
dropbox and backblaze as my remote storage (double off-site redundancy)
systemd to schedule and automatically run everything
gmail for key management (yes this is terrible)

yeah but what if your computer breaks, wouldn't you lose stuff that you don't want to lose?

okay if i'm going to be serious

most of the important files are on my external drive and i will move the rest over when it's possible

but i don't care enough to do anything more than that

Backup onto a hybrid drive, but I could honestly make a backup for the whole C:\ drive.

All of the proprietary Omni files are kept in three places

in the cloud of GDrive

half on my DATA:D drive as a folder
Half on OS:C SSD, especially the larger files like Zenith III's map, the Pavomni collab and most of the Omni mod collection

as for other important files, I should really back up certain irreplacable savegames and stuff like that

The two drives in this smash top will become SATA->USB portable backups, upon which two complete copies of the entire Omni collection will be kept. As Omni is my beloved pearl it is the first priority to backup, as well as perhaps my sticky notes where my passwords and Spectrum info are kept
