1. ALMOST made it to the moon
2. Ran out of fuel
3 Made a wrong orbit (look at the inclination)

or even all three.

Also, on the kerbal space program wiki (yes theres a wiki), there is a video or two of how to get to the moon, just saying. Also isn't the moon from an addon or was that added to a version? That part wasn't clear.

I would compete, but I have to first get into frikking orbit first! :P
