Title: help building solar systems
Post by: ewan121 on May 14, 2011, 07:18:49 AM
hey, i just got the game last night, and to try and get to grips with it i tried creating our solar system. but i don't know how to make moons orbit planest, whenever i place them they always just orbit the sun. how do i try to change the body the moon orbits?

i've tried to change the orbital element from the sun to earth, but i can't change it.

any help would be appreciated  :)

You have to place the moon close to the planet. try moving your planet away from the sun and then doing it.it may be that your planet is too close to the sun

i've been doing that, but the moon always just follows a really wide orbit of the sun, and never the planet, regardless of how close it is to the planet   ???

place the moon near to a planet, select the moon and click "Auto orbit"

I did that but eventually the moon either  goes out of the system or it breaks off and orbits the sun.

Set the timestep lower. That's probably causing the moon to fly out of the orbit.

Your timestep is probably low enough for planets, but not moons.
