Title: How do I get planets to stay in orbit around a binary? (and a working barycenter
Post by: smjjames on May 20, 2014, 10:36:44 AM
What the title says, heh.

Or more importantly, how do I get a binary barycenter working.

I'm trying to get a sort of practice binary system set up.

Edit: Tried looking at Alpha Centauri AB system and they don't actually orbit each other......

I need help with this, too, since Taurica is a close Sun-like and Red-dwarf system.

I'm talking about the Ubox alpha, not Ubox1.

You put the planets far from the system center (maybe 13 AU ?)

There is a button for binary or binary barycenter, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Hmmm... I would help. But I can't.

Here is a step by step guide:
S1: Spawn a Celestial Body.
S2: position it to 0 0 0
S3: Spawn Celestial Body 2 with near-equal mass to 1
S4: Position it something like -100km 0 0
S5: Select the two
S6: click Orbit Barycenter
S7: ???
S8: Profit!

Except the orbit barycenter button doesn't seem to work. It might be a WIP thing since in the alpha centauri system, the stars don't actually orbit each other, might be a separate issue though.

Probably. Perhaps feedback from other testers will help?

Yes...
Meanwhile, I'm doing some tests with alpha 6.

Probably. Perhaps feedback from other testers will help?
