Okay, now that NeutronStar and deoxy99 have made their own city games, it's my turn. ;D
This one is made in Google SketchUp. You draw a 3D-city.
To make it simple, I've changed the settings/preferences in the file, so you should be able to draw in "steps" of 1 meter. I've made roads 8 meters and buildings 15x15 meters until now, but you can decide what shape and size they should have. Note that one floor is 3 meters tall, so a building with 3 floors is 9 meters tall.
Feel free to expand the city or found your own anywhere on the infinitely big map. Please post the updated version of the .skb file, and if you want to you can post a picture of the updated city aswell, but you don't have to do that.
Everyone can have up to 3 different city territories (the flat land that is not a part of the background, which the cities are built on) on the map. The city territory can also be expanded into the background by the owner when he/she wants to, but it is recommended not to expand too much at a time, and not expand far beyond the city.
You are not allowed to expand in a way that makes someone else unable to expand all his/her cities. You may expand so that a maximum of two city territories from each mayor cannot expand.
Colors:
3D:
Green = residental buildings
Blue = commercial buildings
Yellow = farm houses/agriculture buildings
Orange = industry
Red = state buildings
2D:
Dark grey = roads
Yellow = farms/agriculture
Grey = squares and paved/concrete roads
Brown = territory owned by the mayor of the city
Cities:
City - Mayor
Avalon - FGFG
Noxon - Bla
Triumph - Deoxy99
Download Google SketchUp here. (http://sketchup.google.com/)

Added
-
Reminds me of SimCity 4, heh.
-
THis... *pants* is.. *pants* hard...
Don't wait for me, I may update my city randomly. I will not take every turn. As a matter of fact, I'm not even gonna do it now, so I will join later!
-
Deoxy99, your city is fine, but I think the buildings are too big to start with. Don't you think you should start out with some smaller buildings? I don't think a city would start out with so big buildings.
I can also make them smaller if you want me to. :)
May I suggest a third road between the buildings, so there's direct access to all the buildings in the middle? Or perhaps a small pavement/grey road. Perhaps with a square in the middle. Ok, this is your city! You choose. ;D
-
Okay, I've tried to fix your city, deoxy99. What do you think about this? You could start out with these small buildings and expand. Later, when your city has grown, you could make them taller etc. :)
Also, NeutronStar, don't be afraid to try, I can always fix it and come up with a suggestion.
-
No! Please, I want them the way I made them, and don't edit my city.
-
Ok, let's continue from version 2.
Here's my update. Now cities have borders (the flat brown land that is not built on, which is not the background). You can expand these borders on the background.
I fixed some small color bugs in your city, deoxy99, but otherwise it's the same as before. Please place a red city hall. :)
You can also choose a name for your city, then I'll edit the name thing.
-
I have ScketchUp but I don't really want to do so many things!!!! AHHH!!HH!!H!!
Maybe...
-
Okay, I thought it was because it was too hard. Don't do it if you don't want to. :)
-
Here my edit
-
That looks great! :o
Must... Edit...
-
As it becomes a little larger I will make a render of the city ;)
-
Edit:
Added City Hall and Changed City Name.
The red building that is in between the blue buildings, those are actually part of the city hall.
-
Oh nose, two edits... I'll merge them. Please don't edit.
Here's the merged version, edit this:
-
added new parts
-
Edit:
Added a fire station, and a police station, as well as upgrading my buildings.
Can you upgrade my streets to roads?
-
Didn't have time to modify the city, however I made a first render of it:
It's like it was made of crystal :)
-
How did you make that? What did program did you make it with? What tools did you use? How long was the rendering?
-
I think we're expanding upwards too fast compared to spreading out our cities. There's nothing wrong with a few five floored apartments in the center of the city, but skyscrabers now? Is it really needed?
Anyways, it's your cities. I will just continue on mine. :)
Remember that you can expand your borders in any direction on the background.
And FGFG, feel free to pick up the road I placed at your border and expand it into your city. I can also delete it if it doesn't fit into your plans.
Edit:
-
To make the render I used Blender (http://www.blender.org/)
The rendering time was about 10 minutes for a 1680 x 1050 screenshot, with a dual core 2.5 GHz
I simply made the buildings' material transparent (0.25%) and added reflections (0.25%) and refractions (IOR = 1.7) to it.
Added way more buildings to my city. A render will arrive soon.
-
Let me practice making crystal in Blender.
-
Here the render of Avalon:
-
Edit:
The green patches of color on the tops of the buildings is greenery.
Added more buildings and built up!
-
Second render: whole city
-
How do you make the lighting bright?

Nice update FGFG, it looks much more realistic now. :)
And Deoxy99, your skyscrabers also look nice, but don't you think it would be best to build smaller buildings? We just started the game a few days ago, and our cities aren't ready for that, are they?
I'm considering making some building ristriction rules, but I don't think it's the best idea to make so many rules about this. I just think we should try to think realistically. A completely new city doesn't just buy a skyline, it grows over time. Shouldn't we try to do the same?
Essentially, your buildings are extremely tall, but also wide models of the normal buildings. They could be shrinked into a smaller version of your city, with the same roads. That would make space for many more buildings, and would give our cities a more uniform look.
Btw FGFG, I can see your old skyscrabers are placed on the unused background. Just a notification.
Update:
-
Please! I want to keep my buildings!
-
You can, don't worry. But please consider what I'm saying, I also said it before the last edit.
I'm not going to force you to change anything, I just want to suggest something.
When you expand in the Future, consider building smaller buildings, like, 15x15 meters and 3 meters tall. It would probably look strange directly across the street of your huge skyline, but consider making the buildings smaller and smaller as you get further away from the center with the huge buildings. Your city could be the center of our cities.
-
Please don't make me do this! Anyway, edit:
-
But the realism... It's like doing this in one of the 2D city games:
I know it's exaggerated, but consider it. What if we did the same, then all the buildings would look that way, and then the city would look normal again? With the difference that the roads would just be tiny ofc.
-
Please let me do it! It's no fair!
-
I will let you do it.
Update:
-
Edit:
Balanced the commercial with the industry.
-
Wow, I'd like to see those shopping malls inside... Not that I like to shop or do it often, but they must contain loads of nice Technological devices. :)
Btw, just a notification, remember to expand your territory when you build. :)
Update.
-
Edit:
Added a residential building. It's the tallest building possible.
-
I thought you didn't want building ristrictions. :P
Anyways, update:
-
Edit:
-
Sorry for deleting the old skyscrabers placed beyond the city FGFG. I think they have been moved and been destroyed anyways, in one of the edits. But you can, ofc, go back and copy them from an earlier version if you need them.
Update:
-
Okay, I will edit tomorrow!
-
Here it is my new update.
I'm starting to change the colour of the residential building because after some time it starts to get annoying to the eyes. Later on I will change all the green in my city.
-
Then we should select a completely new color for all residental buildings.
It's also easier to simply change it all by selecting a color and shift-clicking something, then it will change the color of all the planes with that color to the new color.
I don't know what the new color should be though. A darker green would make it look like the grass. There's purple... That one shouldn't annoy the eyes I guess.
I just can't imagine a city like this that doesn't use that green color for residental zones. :P
It's against the law of SimCity.
Edit: Update. The road problem has been fixed. My city has expanded, to gain land for agriculture. For mysterious reasons the demand on agriculture is extremely high in our city! I wonder why... :P
-
Probably my city demands it.
Edit: I think Gray is dull.
Edit: I added Green Residential buildings and that's about it.
What road problem?
-
The road problem in number 20. The road had no surface, so the background was visible where the roads were in your city and my city.
I will edit version 22 soon.
Edit: Update.
Edit: We will get a problem in the Future. The biggest size allowed in a post is 3.100 kB. Right now, our cities take up 1.236 kB.
-
Just little changes: my city is now fully gray, I added a new building and edited the 2 complexes near the red house. In the future I'm going to edit the first buildings I made, for a better look. After that I'll complete the empty blocks, and finally another render will arrive ;).
It's also easier to simply change it all by selecting a color and shift-clicking something, then it will change the color of all the planes with that color to the new color.
I don't think it is possible in schetch up.
It's against the law of SimCity.
We aren't playing SimCity :)
-
It is possible, just try it. :P
-
Gray is drab and boring. How about light green?
-
Can't we find a common color for zoned buildings?
What about purple? Or another color? You can suggest any color that is distinguishable from the rest. I just think the greyscale isn't so good because grey isn't a real color, but a mixture of all colors, and doesn't fit into the system when there is yellow, red, blue, orange etc.
Also, the surfaces the people walk on use the greyscale, the roads are almost black, while the pavements are grey.
-
How about just Salmon?
-
Salmon? Eek! :P
I don't know. Isn't it too close to orange?
Update:
-
How about Turquoise?
-
I have no problem with that. But I think that has the same kind of brightness as the green we were using, and I guess it will annoy the eyes just as much.
It depends on what color FGFG wants it to have. I'm just hoping that we can have common colors for our zones, I think this game is on it's way a little too far into freedom. :P
-
#5EECFF!
-
Yes, that's teal/turquoise. I think it will give the same problem as the green we used before.
-
Just lower the brightness on the turquoise, make a new color!
-
I changed all residential to a darker green. No more gray or green.
I added a convention at the end of my city, increases demand in commercial in all of your cities, to be advised.
FGFG, you can change the colors back if you ever need to.
-
I like the new green color, but isn't it too close to grass?
Notification to Deoxy99: I've built a new road to your city.
Update:
-
Here there is my city almost complete!
I'm going to add renders of the whole city soon, and of every district later!
Edit: I'm having problems with the render: I just added a simple (and fast) render of the whole city showing them: I don't know why almost all the buildings of Deoxy99, and some of mines are black.
-
If none of mine are, I think it's because of the faces. With the default color, you are able to see what face is facing the right way. The white face is what you're looking at, while the slightly blue face should be inside the 3D figure. To fix the problem, you have to use the reverse faces button when you right click a face.
It's a good idea to control from the start. I didn't until a few edits ago, where I edited my city.
If you want, I can reverse the faces for you.
-
That's not the problem. First renders were already made with "wrong" faces. I already tried to flip them, but also all the colours of the city got inside.
However, because your city is renderable, I just made an high-res version of it. (The only dark faces are the upper part of the silos' ones).
EDIT: I fixed my city. I just re-drown the buildings with the problems exactly as they were, and it worked, however I didn't understand what the problem was. I'm just rendering Avalon; I'll post the render here when it will be complete.
-
Thanks. :)
What's the big difference between the render and SketchUp btw?
Anyways, update:
-
I'm sorry but your city is too small to have a very better look in the render :-\. (if you enlarge
it the render, you can see a few more details).
Nevertheless the render of mine will arrive late because, since my previous post, it has only processed less than 1/20th of the image...
[edit]
-
Okay, there appears to be some shadows, generally a special lightning which is blurred in some areas... It gives everything a special, slightly shiny, clean effect. It looks good.
But is it worth the time? :P
-
It is a simple render, I made it in just a few minutes.
My city is the problem: I think that, using exactly the same settings, it will take at least another hour to work it out.
-
Edit to my city: I removed the convention and replaced it with a luxurious residential area.
-
Update. Deoxy99, remember that I've built a new road to your city.
-
Where?
-
Look at our border, it shouldn't be too hard to find. Also, I saved the city when the camera was at the location of the road, so you should see it if you open the save. :)
-
For some reason my update wasn't uploaded, but I've made another one. Update:
-
Dang, I was already editing my update. But I can edit AGAIN!
-
Okay, I blackened the asphalt, added a greenhouse on a residential building, and shrunk buildings and made the walkways bigger, added bigger parks, and finished your road leading to mine.
-
The roads shouldn't be compltely black, they aren't that IRL either. :)
Hope it's okay that I changed it back.
I've also reversed lots of faces, and I plan to reverse some faces in each edit so we end up with a perfect model. Don't worry, I have and will continue to change the colors to the colors, so it will look the same.
-
Some real life roads are very very black.
-
Okay, I added a new industrial building, which later will cause a spike in tech level, and added a weird shaped building.
-
A building that is more than a kilometer tall... That's certainly a big building.
Update. I've built a new road to Deoxy99's city.
-
Yep, that tall building is a rocket factory.
-
I am going to join now... but uhh... I am trying to get ScketchUp7.
It has 0% downloaded.
nevermind.
-
I cannot do this. >:( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
It wont close off the object.
-
Update to my city: Finished Tech Level Radar.
-
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to do it all again due to you posting yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AUTHIJgf uoiwr23b4 987g62t5v4
EDIT: WTF??? IT FREAKING POSTED!!!Juh tuohiweqr upoyh3t4wadeutnhrj
ANyways, here is is, my fisrst (and probably FREAKING LAST) post for this gam!!!H ufehwas
IF anyone wants to add it to deoxys then go ahead. I don't like sketch up. 1. It lags. 2. IT WON'T MAKE SHAPES CORRECTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Do not over react.
-
I'm gonna oVERREACT IF I THINK IT IS NECESSARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE THIS!
-
Your city is small. That is way too small for this type of game.
-
Small? I just started!
-
People started bigger than your city.
-
I'll try to edit and see if I can fix it.
Wait, Deoxy99. A lot of FGFG's city is broken in your edit... I think it would be best to go back to the previous edit, sorry. I think you'll have to edit again.
But I've fixed NeutronStar's city. We're not meant to use textures in our cities however, since they cause the program to run slow when there are many faces with textures, plus they probably take up more space, and we only have 3100 kB space in our posts. So I hope it's ok that I've changed some colors.
I've also built a road to your city, it should fit into your normal road system.
Update under the picture of the problem with FGFG's city.
-
That's not a real problem: someone just deleted the buildings. I'll fix it when i will have time
-
Btw, if anyone is waiting because of me (which seems not to be the case, as there are random orders it srrms to me) I might not take at turn for a month so, just go an and do whatever.
-
I continued the road into my city, and adjusted the heights, lengths, and widths of some of my buildings.
Let's just say that the orange 1 km tall tower is a tech level factory.
-
Update.
-
wait a ducking second, i could've sworn there was another one of these threads...
-
there is, I even have files from it
-
isn't this the one
-
this is the prequel
-
this is leakage from the alternate timeline where donald trump didn't become president
-
we must post in this thread to power that timeline

we must post in this thread to transfer our consciousnesses over to that timeline
