In Beta 4 you will be able to create rings of any size in a variety of different styles.
While I'll love to provide a fully functional color gradient editor, for now it's going to be limited to a few preset choices.
Below is a screenshot of the new ring controls (in progress) and the current rainbow gradient. I created a Jupiter ring around Earth and then the same size ring with a rainbow gradient. You can also see a few new controls and other UI changes in the screenshot.
What other gradient options would you like to see?

What about having a Invert Rainbow? Colors are reversed.
-
A way to reverse the gradient is a good idea.

Don't have any image editors on this Laptop, so I can't give you a colour preview. But I'd say a selection of Dark Greens to Light Greens, Dark Blues(Possibly Blacks) to Light Blues, and those sort of colours. Perhaps allow users to change the colours themselves by replacing a certain image? Such as the one at the bottom of your post?
-
Awesome. I agree with Thoreno, blue representing ice asteroid :P
-
Perhaps something like a gradient teal that had dark and light lines, so it looks like circles with different types of ring particles.
It could also be with other colors like dark yellow, grey, brown etc.
-
How 'bout Saturn's and Uranus's? I couldn't find Jupiter's and Neptune's by the way. Sorry if its suppose to be Gradient.
-
for the ring creator, does that mean that you can create rings from any diameter to any wider diameter? please say yes! that is one of the things that most frustrates me.

Yes.

Oh thats GREAT :)
We will be able to make some incredible systems with complex rings.
Looking forward to this.
Will it also be possible to create or move the rings by tilting them on axis?
-
Im curious about what the two bottoms next to "G 1.00" are ??? :D
Collision mode.

Collision mode.
Or the two buttons right of it, the straight line and the dot and the line curved around the dot. I would guess it would be buttons for changing the way you drop bodies into the system, with the curved line making orbits automatically and the straight line just dropping them with a velocity. But only Dan can tell us.

I made mango colored rings.
-
Lol, cool. :P

Lol, cool. :P
It looks like a mango, doesn't it?

Why did you call them bottoms?

I think so... Probably (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mango), I guess it can have many different colors. But I like the colors you made.

After posting that first screenshot I realized that I was creating the ring controls the wrong way.
You now add them from the same panel you add new planets and moons. And if you don't like a preset you can edit its properties in the panel on the right.
Here I selected the Saturn preset, then changed the look to "Rainbow" and the particle count from 1000 to 50000.

The controls look great. :)
Is there a way to control how the rings will be tilted on the axis of a planet, which direction the rings will rotate etc.?
-
Awesome. Love it Dan.

Awesome Ring Colors:
-
They look great too.
Perhaps we need more natural rings too.
Oh, and btw, Dan, will there also be a preview mode for rings (since they're probably hard to delete and remake)? Otherwise, that's a suggestion. :)
Here's one more, Gradient-DarkRed

Some kind of molten lava rings...
-
I made the ring smaller:

GREAT GUYS! More Gradients the better :D

Thanks!

I like the Sky Rings.. Looks awesome :o
