Hello all,
I am a newly hired member of the Universe Sandbox team and first on my agenda is to invite all of you to apply for the new Universe Sandbox Alpha. Follow this link here to the application: SIGN UP HAS BEEN CLOSED.
If you are accepted, we will contact you via email and in the near future send you your Steam code for the new version. We will be sending out several short questionnaires during alpha testing, so we ask that you apply only if you can commit to providing valuable feedback that will help us as we work toward the beta release. We are looking for around 50 alpha testers total, though they will not be selected on a first-come first-served basis, so be sure to answer all of the questions thoroughly.
Good luck!
--Jared
Update 11.19: We are no longer accepting applications for alpha testers. Thank you to everyone who applied. As mentioned, we will be contacting those who are accepted in the near future. Thanks again!
-
This is legit... and welcome to the team Jared!
-
Wow, this is amazing it came so soon!
-
I have a friend named Jared K. :)
Good luck to the future Alpha testers.
-
Hm, one question though, will we have to sign a non-disclosure agreement or something?
I'm fine with a NDA since there shouldn't be a problem with it, I'm just asking out of curiosity as I've heard of alpha/beta testers having to sign one.
-
There's no NDA to sign. I'd just ask that everyone who's accepted use good judgement.
-
cool,i want sign up too. ;)
-
I have a question:
I written my E-mail adress wrong, how can i correct this fault? ???
-
When will I be approved for the Alpha? Will I have to Pay?
-
Becrux, message me your correct email address and I'll set it straight.
jonahrf, we will be contacting people in the near future, and there will be no money involved for the alpha testing.
Glad to see the excitement!
-
Signed! Hope I get chosen. :D
-
fun fact:
United States of America = USA
Universe Sandbox Alpha = USA

An interesting coincidence. :o
-
Couldn't sign up fast enough! Will we be notified if we didn't get picked?
-
Well, you could just ask other people if they got in, or look for Alpha Tester under people's names.
-
IF we get signed in into the alpha testing team, when will we get the message? ;D
-
In the near future.
If you are accepted, we will contact you via email and in the near future send you your Steam code for the new version.

Sounds like you got a good deal of applicants. :) Also, what email will you be using? Just asking so that I can set it up so that it doesn't get sent to the junk mail.
-
can't believe i missed it...
-
Its been up for a good few days dude! Just something to look forward to next year, many of us that applied will have to wait just as long.
-
inb4 literally everyone on universe sandbox forum applied

Kol, I was considering writing a couple research paper length responses but I decided against that as it would take me way too long and be a waste of time for all involved, unless it got me in the alpha. But it probably wouldn't as Jared would just throw out my response because it was too long and would take probably around 30 or more minutes to read, lengthening the alpha picking process. However, if I had gone through with that, he might read it and then add me as the very first alpha tester but in all likelihood he would have just skipped it.
So instead I sent a few generic sentences that will probably get me rejected and banned from the forum for being obnoxious to the new admin. Although that probably won't get me in the alpha, at least it won't irritate him or set him off so that I get banned for submitting a terrible alpha application. At least I won't get banned from viewing the site because SMF doesn't allow that, I tried it on my own forum but the person I had banned was still able to view the forum, just not able to reply or message people. Bt in my opinion that's twice a s frustrating as simply being banned altogether because in that situation the saying "out of sight, out of mind" applies because you are constantly reminded that you are banned when you go on the forum and you will more often because you can still check posts and replies.
Also the most important question about this whole alpha: Will people that get accepted have the "Alpha Team" title below their username and above the stars like some people that tested the beta for Universe Sandbox 2 have the "Beta Team" title?
-
i have no idea why you just wrote that darvince. if you had submitted like three generic sentences and done nothing else then you probably would have gotten into the alpha but now i am not so sure.
-
and what will happen to the people that already have beta team? will it be alpha and beta team? or beta team for version two and alpha team for version one?

Hasn't been decided yet.

Nope... you made it. :)
-
;D got it..
-
Well it sounds like invites have been sent out...
Too bad I did not make it... Oh well!
Good luck to the official Universe Alpha Team!
See you guys in the next beta. ;)
EDIT: Nevermind!! I got in Haha Thanks guys.

I was feeling bored in first period and also I feel like every time a new admin joins everyone in Everything Else will be banned because it's so weird, LOL.
-
I'm pretty sure every forum has that kind of weird side.

same here buddy see you in the Alpha! ;D
-
I've got it!! Thank you team! ;D
-
Received the E-Mail and I am an Alpha tester. Cannot wait to hunt bugs (especially the weird ones)!
-
I'm in as well, I suspect most of them that are in are forum members, including all of the main active people :D
-
I've been accepted in the alpha team too ! Thanks You so much :D !
-
I have been chosen to test Universe Sandbox 3 Alpha! ;D
I am extremely looking forward to exploring the new upcoming version of Universe Sandbox, and very compelled to give my feedback and thoughts of the new simulator from head to toe.
But as initial suggestions that could be great to add to the upcoming version as it progresses (in case it does not have the following below)
- Satellite Maps (e.g. Google Maps)
- Weather System Simulations (e.g. hurricanes, typhoons and tropical storms)
- More geologic activity (e.g. Volcanoes, earthquakes, plate movement and erosion)
- Ability to land on object with enhanced 3D terrain, atmosphere and sun-rise/set
- Solar/partial eclipses (e.g. Earth and Moon)
- Customizable-galaxies (e.g. distribution of stars/matter and type)
Although some of the things I have mentioned above seem very beastly to incorporate.
However, I would really love to see this in development in the new year as the core values of universe sandbox is supposedly to mimic the real universe, bounded by the known laws of physics.
-
YES! Got in the alpha too ;D ;D :P
-
I think you can already do eclipses, just need the right alignment and camera position, though I'm sure it would be more spectacular in Ubox3.
-
Dangit I was too late :o Well have fun testing guys. :D
-
I have one question
1) What happens when the Alpha is over? Do we get a version of the full game? Or is the alpha the finished product?
-
I remember that Dan said some time ago that the beta testers won't need to buy the game after it's going to be released. I don't know if this has changed but I'll be happy to buy it at any price.
-
I think you can already do eclipses, just need the right alignment and camera position, though I'm sure it would be more spectacular in Ubox3.
Space Engine, which is apparently free has that capability, and landing on the surface ticks off all the things I'd like to see; 3D Terrain, dynamic atmosphere and of course eclipses.
See this: Space Engine - A big eclipse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NMb0BYPicg#)
Space Engine Website: http://en.spaceengine.org/ (http://en.spaceengine.org/)
But the drawback using space engine is it can crash quite a lot. But that's just because its still in beta stage.
-
sikirt alpha board GO!
please thanks :)
edit: for the normal people skirit = secret
-
I agree.
And in my opinion, Sekret is a better word for secret. ;)
-
No thanks, I'd rather not have dynamic realistic weather, just maybe a bunch of cloud "sprites" that wander around planets in a realistic manner. (like following coriolis path or whatever for hurricane sprites)
EDIT: Alpha Team title gooo
-
Operation Alpha Titles go go go 8)
-
Thank you, US team, for allowing me to be an alpha tester. I look forward to seeing the progress of the product!
-
Welp. I got it. Sounds like almost everyone that applied did lol

Well there was around 500 views on this post by the time they stopped accepting applications, and I don't know why someone wouldn't apply if they read the post. Plus the people who didn't get in didn't all flock to say they didn't get in; making it feel like everyone got in
:o ::) :P

Space Engine isn't really a simulator though, you can't blow up stuff
-
I've got alpha too ;D
-
i got in the alpha wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
-
Oh well. I'm way too late for this.
-
Can`t wait to get the code and destroy everything ;D

What happens when the Alpha is over? Do we get a version of the full game? Or is the alpha the finished product?
The alpha version will be regularly updated, eventually become the public beta, and later become the released, 'finished' version on Steam.
-
Do the Alpha/Beta testers get the full version of the game for free or will we have to purchase it after the beta is closed?
-
Alpha testers will get the full version of the game (and the beta version) for free.
Beta access will be granted to those that pre-order...
-
Even if I didn't get the game for free from being in the alpha, I would have bought it anyway. Thanks Dan!
I'm also guessing an early December release for the Alpha. Dec 6 is my guess ;)

Sounds reasonable, so that means there isn't an open beta (unless you "pre-order"?).

-
Did you make that just for this?
-
i think :P
-
its december 8th -_-
-
aww i'm late...
-
I would kill for alpha access. However, First I would pay for it; Then if that didnt work: I would go crazy.
-
good

Sign up closed!?!?! :'(
