Title: I'm building a custom pc and need a second opinion
Post by: Bernier77 on May 16, 2009, 01:10:24 PM
So it's that time of.. my life.. where I turn 18 and my parents say "HEY, here's 500$ to build a custom rig". ;)
Here's my components so far. If you reccommend any hardware, keep in mind that I have a max budget of $600, as I have $100 of my own money which I'm willing to spend.
Country: Canada Budget: Close to 500$, but willing to stretch to $600 Games/Applications that will be used: Steam, All Source Games, Photoshop Games/Applications that will be used:
Case: Rosewill R363-M-BK Micro Black Ultra High Gloss Finished ATX Computer Case with 400W ATX 2.2 12V Power Supply (http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll200/11-147-099-14.jpg) $57.99
GPU: SAPPHIRE 100255HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit (http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newegg/14-102-820-TS?$S180W$) $77.49 +10$ mail in rebate.
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache (http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll200/22-136-074-03.jpg) $68.99 Double the storage and $1 less than my last choice :)
Keyboard/Mouse: Microsoft CA9-00001 Black 103 Normal Keys 3 Function Keys PS/2 Standard Basic Keyboard and Mouse. (http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll200/23-109-132-19.jpg) $19.99
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V Power Supply There seem to be issues with the capabilities of the +12v Rail, but I'm not making a rediculous PC, so I'm not too worried. (http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll200/17-153-023-21.jpg) $44.99
Total Price: $447.92[/size]
Right under my lowest mark for my budget, and with the cost of a monitor I should be in the sweet spot of my budget including shipping and such.

You should be able to get a bigger hard drive for less.
Otherwise they look like reasonable choices.
You can find a 500 GB drive on NewEgg for $50. (and maybe something better than that)
