stuff that's hurricanes but scientifically not hurricanes a.k.a polar storms or whatever

a hurricane is any storm with winds of 64 kts or greater
regionally (in the north atlantic basin), a hurricane is a tropical cyclone with the same wind speeds
a non-hurricane hurricane makes as much sense as a non-airplane airplane
besides, there's a winter storm thread already, and that basically covers it
