As founder of the United Pacific States I was thinking we could maybe have a friendly little competition to submit a flag for the region that represents most (if not all) of the nations in the region. Yes? No?
If you want.
At the end we'll vote to keep the original regional flag or any of the submissions. Okay?
Post your submissions here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHFaWXAzc2xoSm5mVEZwVTVhRW92WGc6MQ) by 20120625 00:00 (UTC)
You are limited to two submissions.
Voting begins after submission deadline, post here (or regional message board) for which one you like the best (including the current one). Details on other aspects of voting will be discussed, but it'll probably be some form of stages of elimination. The submissions in the lowest third percentile based on amount of votes will be absent from the next round. If that isn't very clear mudkipz or someone can write something and I'll quote it in here.
-
suggestions:
1. include regional flag in competition, not as a seperate entry at the end
2. because so little people vs many flags, it should be done in a tournament like way, first eliminate the flags with no votes etc.
3. make people post instead of poll because multis
Also can non-ups member join and vote.
-
woah mudkipz what do you mean by 1 and 3?
I don't see why a non-UPS member should be able to vote but then again I don't see why they shouldn't be able to, so I guess they can.
-
by #1 i mean.
instead of flag1 vs flag2 vs flag 3 >>> and then pick a final flag and decide to use that or the one we have,
do flag1 vs flag2 vs flag3 vs currentflag for a more fair result
by 3# i mean, multiple forum accounts, so make people post to vote instead of poll.

Well usually because they aren't a part of this so they shouldn't be able to affect how we run things. It's like if indian citizens tried to vote and change the us flag to an indian one.
-
also i think we should also be able to submit entries to the tups rmb, i've changed the world factbook in anycase.
-
instead of flag1 vs flag2 vs flag 3 >>> and then pick a final flag and decide to use that or the one we have,
do flag1 vs flag2 vs flag3 vs currentflag for a more fair result
Okay. I just thought the other way made more sense.

Well, then define who is in the UPS... ? I would consider it anyone who is from this forum who has a nation (plus other people who joined in NS who aren't from here), in which case it doesn't really matter who posts to vote (which makes sense instead of a poll so okay).
-

Okay. I just thought the other way made more sense.
because that would give the current flag an advantage; it only has to go through 1 round and not be voted out vs several for other flags

ok. how would we prevent multis though.
One of the new nations in tups could always be a puppet of someone.
-
But what if they aren't? I guess we would have to ask them to sign up and Dan could verify IP addresses?
Yes, that could be bypassed but they'd be going out of their way... I don't think someone would really care to do that.
-
We could just let people tell Atomic (or someone else) what flag they vote for and then he counts the votes, or let people post it in public. If a user who is suddenly called SouleatingHamburger suddenly joins the topic all of a sudden, and in his/her first post, suddenly wants to vote for a certain flag, maybe it could be because that person was, in fact, a multi.
Unless people don't like to post their votes in public.
-
Well there are members of the ups not on the forum.
we could try irc, but that would be pretty difficult.
google docs, but they could make another email
-
I think voting should be public, I don't know why it would matter. So, kipz, you mentioned a "tournament", but it didn't seem to be like, matching pairs or anything, how would it work? Maybe like, put a lower limit on votes (percentage maybe) to eliminate flags with no, 1, (maybe 2) votes so that the votes can go to the more likely to win the next round? Idk that makes sense to me.
-
Yes, for the first round, eliminate all flags with no votes, then depending on how many flags left, keep going.
Someways to prevent multying:
All email to a gmail account and i'll check ip to make sure different. i'll ss votes and make the account public if anyone wants to verify later. Problem with this is that the sender must not be using gmail, so that complicates things.
Google Docs:
Can be thwarted if someone uses multiple gmails.
besides that, idk.
-
Or, ahah, make a wiki and then can't you post as a guest or something and that'll show the ip too.
-
I just think we trust people by posting here or have Dan or Bla verify IP. (Can Bla see IPs?)
-
(Bla cannot see IPs)
-
Ok, i don't think we should need people to post their entries here, though. the rmb is fine.
well that is probabla a good thing. if bla saw ips, he'd stalk us and commiefy us all

^does atomic agreee with the above and if yes then can change op?
-
I did... ?
-
oh nvm.
-
another thing:
maybe we should submit flags anonymously to prevent bias?
-
I have an idea, actually. Yeah, if you could send submissions to me I could maybe set something up on my site so you can vote? If I can't do that or I'm too lazy then you can post your vote here or on the RMB.
-
'Yeah, if you could send submissions to me
that wouldn't be exactly anonymous
'I could maybe set something up on my site so you can vote?'
yeah, but only if a person cannot somehow have multiple votes
'If I can't do that or I'm too lazy then you can post your vote here or on the RMB.'
no it should be only here so Dan can check ips for duplicate.
Anyone have any idea on how to post anonymously a link of flag.
-
This still isn't (entirely) anonymous, but submissions could be sent to one person who could make them an album on imgur.
-
can you do some comments section on your site and then compile the album?
-
No cause I cannot into comments. Besides how would I be able to tell if someone just put some nickname or whatever.
-
you don't need to know. thats only the submission process. the actual voting will take place on this or another thread.
-
Oh like have them submit a link (anonymously?)
I could do that... if Yqt would tell me how ezSQL works. I'll try to set it up.
-
yes we nid anonymous submission for links because without it there might be a bias and people might vote on who designed the flag vs which one is actually better.
-
also can we extend this to 10 days instead of 5 so deadlike 6/23/2012 utc 0000 whatever.
-
idk why we need that much time...
-
i'll be busy for the next week.
also are we in a rush.
-
No, but...
-
but what.
-
25
-
can i vote and make a flag
-
What, yes...
-
nue are you ok.... you seem to be talking funny...
What, yes...
No, but...
-
25
what does this mean. does this mean yes: the new deadline is june 25th?
-
Yes, as it says in the original post.
-
^
-
I'm sorry, I didn't feel like reeding the whole topic.
-
The reason we need it extended is because we need to spend at least 7 days discussing how to make the voting process perfect with no bias. :I I find it a bit funny that it needs to be made so complex just for this friendly little contest... Would we really begin to make alts and do all sorts of strange things just to... Meh. /juststaysoutofthisIguess
-
It's not arguing it's discussion on how to best set up the contest so no one gets an advantage. In anycase we spent less than 1 day discussing it and everything is basically all sorted out.
-
Would we really begin to make alts and do all sorts of strange things just to... Meh.
I don't really think so, but mudkipz thinks so... It doesn't really matter. It's done.
-

I'm too lazy to try to set up the anonymous thing.
-
i'll do it. just make a google docs and have everyone paste their link, making sure not to erase anyones. if someone's gets aciddentally erased it can just be reposted.
-
I have an idea now, actually. Give me like, 5 mins.
-
ok nue
-
Okay, just submit them at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHFaWXAzc2xoSm5mVEZwVTVhRW92WGc6MQ
I've put the link in the topic.

kol nue
shud i be impressed
-
can we lift the two submission limit? i don't see why there should be a limit unless someone floods it and even if they do you can't tell who it was or who did it so...
-
Because I don't think people need to make so many alternate versions of flags, there might be slight changes between 5 different versions, so just limited to two, hopefully different flags.

If they are supposed to be seals, SKA has one (isn't a bird)

seals, symbols, flag, something so that each country can be recognized anyway. the seals can be quite easily changed, so i'll do that if everyone agrees. not sure what your seal is, but i find the bird recognizable anyway.
