We're going to move to a fixed price for version 2.
(It will no longer be name your own price.)
While you're a biased group to ask :), I'm curious what you think.
-
$20-30 and equivalent
-
No, it should be 15 dollars.
-
20$ or
30$ double deal ;D (one gift copy to a friend)
-
5 dollars or above, but less than 20 dollars.
-
5 dollars or above, but less than 20 dollars.
For Dan to work that hard for a low price... No...
-
15 dollars is reasonable, not 20!
-
20-30.
-
Why do people keep suggesting 20-30?
-
Idk, maybe it's a good price!
-
Its not. What if people don't have money?
-
Then they should get a job. ;D
-
What if they didn't get an education because of the money? Then, no job.
-
Summer job.
-
It's a good question what it should cost. The more it costs, the less people will buy it. But I guess there's no shipment costs or something like that.
If it costed ten dollars, perhaps 100 would buy it. But if it costed 20 dollars, perhaps only 50 would buy it. Then it would be the same. I don't know where the balance point is.
I can say that I would pay as much as normal computer games cost. Perhaps I would pay 50$, but I wouldn't do that if I didn't know the program.

maybe dan should find the average money payed, then add a few $.
-
Summer job.
What if you don't have the skill?
-
It's simple to learn. Most likely somone has 30 dollars out there! Take out a bank loan if needed!

What if you can't pay the loan?
-
Dude, you can stop now.
-
It's the vicious circle.
-
20$ or
30$ double deal ;D (one gift copy to a friend)
This.
Maybe for holidays you can chop the price to like $10
-
I say 15 or 20 bucks.
As for a people getting a job to make money, it's not so easy. Trust me, I know.
-
The average is (by the way, I averaged people's requests if they had two or more, to only min and max if a range): $21.50
-
20$ or
30$ double deal ;D (one gift copy to a friend)
Actually, double deal would cost $40.
-
But it's a deal! Not normal cost!
I say 25 dollars for US, then a double pack is 45! You get $5 off!
-
21 dollars and 50 cents is the correct price for this.
-
- The planetarium Starry Night cost $212.46,
- Framsticks ( a biological Evolution simulator ) cost $49 (or $25 for educational license),
- Astrograv ( a simulator much less sophisticated than the Universe Sandbox ) cost $59 !!!
- Gravity 1.3 ( a much less sophisticated simulator than Astrograv ) cost $15,00 !!!!!!!
And here are suggestions that the Universe Sandbox is expected to cost between $20 and $30 ( or less !! ) ?
The Universe Sandbox is a simulator with a unique quality that should not have a price lower than $50, I just think it would be somewhere around $80 !

80 dollars is too much.
-
I would agree with APODman but to be competitive with others - being a little cheaper isn't always bad.
-
I think 15 is enough! ;) ;) ;) You know it is a good price, just look into your mind.
-
50 for Academic
25 for the others
That is what you meant to say.
-
50 for Academic
25 for the others
That is what you meant to say.
This makes sense.
-
FREE FOR EVERYONE!!!
-
FREE FOR EVERYONE!!!
But then Dan won't have any money to continue the development, and then the development will stop. Isn't it better to pay for it?
-
Only good option for me is a payment by SMS.
USD is too expensive for me.
1 USD=4 PLN

Less than Astrograv ?
I can agreed with the 25 for Academic / 50 for the others. Nothing less

-
5 PLN or less.
-
The demand is high and the supply is low with that price. Think about supply and demand.
-
There is no supply I guess. People can just download the program on the website and activate it when they've entered the license.
-
If the price is zero, the supply would be zero, and the demand would be infinite.
-
It's a good question what it should cost. The more it costs, the less people will buy it.
Bla's got it. This is the key issue.
If it's priced at $10 we'd have to sell 4 times the number of copies to make the same amount of money if it was priced at $40. (considering the cost of bandwidth and payment transaction fees it might be more like 4.2-4.5 instead of 4)
We have decided that it will be a single price for everyone (individual uses and educational customers) and that there will be discounts for buying packs of 10 or more.
As a side note on costs:
Paypal & Google both take $0.30+3% so if someone buys for less than $0.30 we get nothing and a purchase for $1 results in ~ $0.65 income.
-
This is why $20 fits.
It is right in the middle.
-
$10 and $40 were just examples.
And the middle of $10 and $40 is $25 = ((40-10)/2)+10
:)
-
25 dollars is fine. ;)
-
Yeah, about 20-25 dollars should be good.
-
How do you determine the middle of 20-25 dollars?
-
22.50?
(ab)/b
kind of
You take all your numbers you want to average and divide it by as many as you have
So a = numbers, n = amount of them
so,
(20+25)/2
There are 2 numbers, and they are 20 and 25.
20+25 = 45
45/2 is ... i guess 22.5
-
Yes. My dad told me the answer.
-
$22.50 is the middle of the set 20 - 25, which are the prices close to 25, which is the middle of the set 10 - 40.
$22.50 is the ideal price.
-
My confirmed price I say is 30 dollars!
And a $55 dollar double set!
-
The price is the average of yours and mine.
The average is: $26.25
-
$26.25 would have an approximately equal demand.
-
Yes, but nothing is always equal, if we go by the rules that twice the price less gives 1.5 more people and $30 gives 500 buyers, then we should be able to have a maximum of...
Well this will not work... Since... We cannot know the rate of people! It may be n^n.this would thus yeild...
No... I am not sure, but it may have to do with x to the xth root, e, i, phi, and/or pi! I assume e and i may be involved.
-
US will cheaper :) if we Dan will start commercials in web. Like facebook, Myspace etc.
-
He could even advertise it on TV ads, when he has the money.
-
22.50
Right. For some reason I was doing it the hard way.
(20+25)/2 = 45/2 = 22.5
or
(25-20)/2 + 20 = 5/2 + 20 = 22.5
-
Thanks Dan for outsmarting me. D: lol
-
I think the price should be the original recommended price(25USD or 13.5GBP) - what you paid for Universe Sandbox 1. And if you paid $25 or £13.5 it should be around $10 or £5.
-
22.50
Right. For some reason I was doing it the hard way.
(20+25)/2 = 45/2 = 22.5
or
(25-20)/2 + 20 = 5/2 + 20 = 22.5
I didn't know it had to do with averaging.
-
Universe Sandbox 2 will cost $29.
Details on the new pricing is here:
http://universesandbox.com/buy/
Upgrade pricing still to be determined.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
-
May 1st? I thought you said you weren't going to make a day for it to come out!
Edit: And what is with the $29? That's kind of random!
-
$30 is no fair! It's too much for me! I am never ever going to buy this...you made me hate it!
-
Since you already paid for it, you will get it cheaper. :)
And remember how much normal games cost. I'd say this program is on the level of professional games.

Ya, I really think this game isn't worth $30, and I'm not trying to give any ideas, but US is probably worth a good $60 or $70, based on other simulator's prices that are similar.
-
After much debate we're feeling pretty good about $29.
This makes it affordable for more people.
-
For more? It's for less people!
-
I think Dan means compared to most games!
PS2: 49.99
PS3: 59.99
Sims 3: 69.99
Most computer games: 49.99
XBox 360: 59.99
Most science simulators that are good and work: $50-200
-
Most computer games are 19.99!
-
Computer games are all different prices:

You are crazy! Spore and Zoo tycoon and rollercoaster tycoon were 49.99!
-
Whoa! Sims 3 is way cheaper then i was the day it came out!
-
You are crazy!
Perhaps it's just wishful optimism. Please be sensitive.
-
Are you sure it's not pessimism?
-
You are crazy!
Perhaps it's just wishful optimism. Please be sensitive.
It's not to be mean.
-
At Walmart, lots of games, excluding Spore and those games, cost 19.99.
-
i say if the program is going to be upgraded and refined with new features after release
id happly pay £50 for it i mean most of my games cost that much from the shop so... its what i would expect it to cost
PS i don't know the exchange rates atm so can't change in to $ for you
-
That would be 67.68 USD, and that is too much.
-
WAY TOO MUCH.
-
No, WAY WAY WAY WAY TOO MUCH.
-
Not that I'm sayings it's not worth that much.
Just a lot of teens and younger people get turned off by high prices.
-
I actually can buy it... I think. I have 50 bucks right now LOL.
-

The single copy price is the same for everyone.
Discounts start when you buy 10 copies or more.

Yep! We've announced the date.

Well done, Dan Dixon. You have surely made an improvement in this simulator, as well as some errors, but you have made a good program.
